π£10 surprising things you probably didnβt know about apricots
As we celebrate National Apricot Day, hereβs a closer look at why this small fruit has been valued for centuries. Apricots trace back over 4,000 years to China, were later brought to California by Spanish explorers, and today more than 95% of U.S. apricots are grown there.
Apricots belong to the rose family, are naturally free of saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol, and even get their name from the Latin word meaning βprecious.β Apricot trees can produce fruit for 20β25 years, and the fruit ripens best at room temperature before refrigerating. Inside the pit, apricot seeds are often discussed in whole-food education for their natural compounds.
A small fruit with a long history β and plenty to appreciate. π±
