AI is everywhere right now—including tools that claim to analyze your skin or diagnose conditions from a photo.

While technology can be helpful, it cannot replace an in-person dermatology visit—especially when it comes to your skin health.

At Dermatology Center of Wi******er, we frequently see patients who first tried to “self-diagnose” online. What looks simple on the surface can sometimes be something more serious, including early signs of skin cancer.

A photo can’t:
• Feel texture changes
• Evaluate subtle color variations
• Examine your full skin history
• Identify deeper or evolving concerns

That’s where expert care matters.

Our team provides comprehensive, in-person evaluations for patients in Wi******er, VA and surrounding areas including Martinsburg, Berkeley Springs, and Hagerstown.
Whether you’re concerned about a changing spot, acne, a rash, or something that just doesn’t seem right—it’s always best to have it evaluated by a trained provider.

Cracked heels are more common than most people think, especially when the air is dry and we’re going in and out of cold weather and indoor heat.

The good news: with the right approach, they often improve quickly.❤

Dermatology-approved at-home steps:
🧴Moisturize twice daily with a thick cream or ointment. Ingredients like urea, salicylic acid, or alpha hydroxy acids can help soften thick, dry skin.
🧴At night, apply a generous layer of moisturizer or petroleum-based ointment and wear cotton socks to lock it in overnight.
🧴Keep showers short and lukewarm and use a gentle cleanser (hot water can worsen dryness).

If cracks are painful during the day, a liquid bandage can help create a protective barrier while the skin heals.

When to schedule a visit:
If your heels are bleeding, very painful, not improving, or you notice signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, swelling, drainage), it’s worth being seen. And if you have diabetes or circulation problems, don’t wait — heel cracks can become more serious.

We’re here to help you get comfortable again with safe, practical treatment options.

If spring allergies hit your nose and eyes, they can hit your skin too. 🌷

As pollen increases, many people notice more itching, redness, dry patches, or new rashes, especially on sensitive areas like the face, eyelids, neck, and hands. At the same time, quick shifts between warm afternoons and cooler mornings can leave skin more reactive by drying and irritating the barrier.

A few dermatologist-approved ways to calm allergy-season skin:
• Rinse or shower after being outdoors to remove pollen from skin and hair
• Keep skincare simple and fragrance-free during flares
• Moisturize consistently to support the skin barrier
• Avoid hot water and harsh scrubs when skin is itchy or inflamed

If your itching, rash, or eczema flare is persistent, spreading, or not improving with basic care, our team can help you figure out what’s going on and create a treatment plan that fits the season.

March weather in our area can change fast, and your skin often reacts just as quickly. Cold wind, warmer days, and dry indoor heat can disrupt the skin barrier and trigger dryness, irritation, and flare-ups.

This time of year we commonly see:
• Dry, tight, itchy skin
• Eczema flare-ups (kids and adults)
• Rosacea flushing triggered by wind/cold or temperature extremes
• Breakouts when warmer temps increase oiliness

Helpful reset tips:
✅ Lukewarm showers (hot water can irritate and weaken the barrier)
✅ Moisturize right after washing
✅ Run a humidifier if indoor air is dry
✅ Keep routines simple and fragrance-free during flares

If your skin is uncomfortable or flaring, our team is here to help.♥

Think of a skin check like a yearly reset for your health.

Not because you’re worried — because you’re wise.

A full-body skin exam is a simple, consistent habit that helps you stay connected to your skin, notice changes early, and take care of yourself with intention. Most concerning spots don’t hurt or announce themselves. That’s why checking matters.

Who should schedule?
• Anyone who spends time outdoors (past or present)
• Anyone with a history of sunburns or tanning
• Anyone with lots of moles or changing spots
• Anyone with a personal or family history of skin cancer
• Anyone who wants peace of mind

We see patients of all ages and make appointments feel safe, comfortable, and respectful. If you’ve been putting it off, let this be your sign to get it on the calendar.
