Mohs surgery is recommended because it offers one of the highest cure rates for certain types of skin cancer.

By examining tissue during the procedure, Mohs allows for complete removal of cancer cells while preserving as much healthy skin as possible. This is especially important in areas where appearance and function matter.

Your provider recommends Mohs based on factors like the type of skin cancer, its location, and your individual medical history.

Every recommendation is made with your long-term health in mind.

Mohs surgery is done in stages, which is why appointments can last several hours.

After each layer of tissue is removed, it is carefully examined before deciding whether another layer is needed. This waiting period is an important part of the process and helps ensure that all cancer cells are removed before you go home.

Because everyone’s case is different, the exact length of the appointment can vary. We encourage patients to plan for a longer visit and bring something to help pass the time.

This careful approach is what makes Mohs surgery so effective.

This is one of the most common concerns we hear — and one of the biggest worries for patients.

Mohs surgery is performed using local anesthesia, which numbs the area being treated. Most patients are awake, comfortable, and relaxed during the procedure. Many are surprised by how manageable the experience is.

Our team takes time to explain each step, check in on your comfort, and make sure you feel supported throughout your visit.

Feeling nervous is completely normal. Asking questions is always encouraged.

If you’ve been told you need Mohs surgery, one of the first questions most people ask is simply, “What is it?”

Mohs surgery is a specialized technique used to treat certain types of skin cancer. It involves removing the cancer layer by layer, with each layer carefully examined, until no cancer cells remain. This method allows the provider to remove the cancer while preserving as much healthy skin as possible.

Mohs surgery is often recommended for areas where precision matters most, such as the face, ears, hands, and scalp.

Our goal is not only effective treatment, but helping you feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout the process.

Starting the new year with a professional skin check is one of the most important steps you can take for your long-term health.

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, and many concerning spots do not cause pain or symptoms early on. A full-body skin exam allows a trained dermatology provider to evaluate moles, freckles, and spots you may not be able to see yourself — and to catch changes early, when treatment is most effective.

You should consider scheduling a skin check if you:
• Have a history of sun exposure or sunburns
• Notice a new, changing, or unusual spot
• Have a personal or family history of skin cancer
• Have many moles or freckles
• Simply want peace of mind

At Dermatology Center of Wi******er, we see patients of all ages and provide skin exams in a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment. Our team takes the time to explain findings, answer questions, and make sure you feel at ease throughout your visit.

We see patients of all ages and treat a wide range of medical dermatology concerns, including routine skin exams, eczema, acne, and more.
