David Richard Schoper, lifelong resident of Jeffers, Minnesota, was born on December 28, 1940, in Windom to Henry and Violet (Wolter) Schoper. A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, David’s roots in the Jeffers community ran deep, and his faith guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1958.
After high school, David began farming—a calling that became both his livelihood and his joy. He loved working the land, and his strong work ethic was evident in the beautiful, abundant gardens he tended with care. Alongside farming, he worked at Toro until 2005, yet he continued farming well into his later years, retiring only in 2020.
On July 14, 1973, David married JoAnn Kirchmeier. Together they built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and family. They were blessed with three children—Kimberly, Susan, and Scott—whom David cherished deeply. He was a devoted husband and father, proud of the family they created and grateful for every moment spent together.
David will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his commitment to helping family and friends, and his generous spirit shaped the lives of those around him. He delighted in sharing the fruits of his garden, offering kindness in the simplest and most meaningful ways. Selflessness was at the heart of who he was.
Throughout his life, David was active in his community. He was a member of the Ruritan Club and the Jeffers Lions Club, and he served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council. He treasured his time with the Jeffers Card Club and valued the friendships formed there. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son, Scott, and looked forward to the camaraderie of hunting parties with Scott and many close friends. Farming, gardening, and time spent with his children and grandchildren were among his greatest joys.
As he grew older, David found peace in simple pleasures—sitting outside, petting the dog, watching the crops grow. He enjoyed westerns, root beer, and the special treat of German Potato Pancakes.
David passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Ecumen Pathstone Memory Care in Mankato, Minnesota.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Kimberly (Glen) Hendrickson of Lakeville, Susan Schoper of Eagle Lake, and Scott (Emily) Schoper of Kasota; grandchildren Ellie Hendrickson, Grant Hendrickson, Mae Schoper, and Hugh Schoper; sisters Karen (Hal) Brown of San Antonio, Texas, and Joyce Damon of Edina; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn, and his parents, Henry and Violet Schoper.
Blessed be the memory of David Richard Schoper.
