This is so sad. Be your own advocate, keep those appointments and speak up if something doesn't feel right. Please read her inspiring story of perseverance before this all happened(in comment). It should be her legacy.

Dr. Janell Green Smith, a respected midwife, died from childbirth complications, highlighting this crisis, especially if you’re a Black woman.

RSV immunization is recommended for all infants under the age of 8 months. RSV season is still here and generally runs through March. So if your baby was born this past spring or summer, talk with your pediatrician about getting the RSV immunization as soon as possible to maximize protection this season. You can also use this chart to help you figure out the best time for your baby to get the immunization based on their birth month. Your pediatrician can help you confirm the timing that is right for your baby and your community. Learn more about RSV at https://bit.ly/46Q4uSH

LOOK at the latest MCH graduate - Kyren! He just had his 1st birthday and he is the most adorable little man! His parents are rockin' it! He is a very busy little guy and very happy - but, these pics say "I have so much to do! Don't make me sit still and by all means - NO hats!" Ha! This is one of my favorite quilts from the ladies at Walnut Valley Quilters Guild. The theme is from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and they even included the book! Kyren was all about getting caught up for his next book club --yes, he is THAT smart!!

Good News! Look at this! Effective January 20th, they will be accepting applications for those that need help with heating costs this winter. This is a one-time benefit per year. You can even apply on-line! :)

DCF has been notified that federal funding was approved for the 2026 Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) season. LIEAP helps eligible Kansas households pay a portion of their primary home heating costs during the winter season with a one-time per year benefit.

Applications will NOT be accepted until 8 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2026, and must be received by DCF by 5 p.m. on March 31, 2026.

Learn more about LIEAP at LIEAP.dcf.ks.gov.

Safe sleep is simple, yet so very important! Remember, the ABC's of safe sleep. A-Alone and in their crib B-Always place infant on their backs C-Clutter free crib - no loose blankets, bumper pads, toys, baby wipes, pillows, etc.
Co-sleeping seems so sweet, but it is very dangerous. Smoking puts your baby at a higher risk for SIDS. Recommended to have the baby alone in their crib by your bed side for the first 6 months of life. Car seats and swings are not safe for infants to sleep in. If you bring your baby in asleep in the car seat - gently remove the baby and put him/her down on their back in a crib. If baby's fall sleep in the swing - their heads can flop forward and asphyxiation can occur. Again, turn swing off and place baby on their back in their crib (bassinet).
