It’s official.

When I moved to Winston Salem from San Francisco back at the end of 2021, I learned that none of the hours I had earned toward full licensure would carry over. Nearly 1000 hours of client work and 100 hours of supervision were discarded.

And you know what? It’s all been ok. I was starting over at zero, but I was doing work that I loved. Being…somewhat type A (ok maybe very type A), it was a good lesson. What does a finish line really mean? How can I learn to sit with the feeling of frustration over lost time, and create something mean fun with what I have in front of me? How do I learn to simply be present, put my head down and do the work I love without adding the pressure of a deadline?

It wasn’t all easy; and often felt like two steps forward, theee steps back. But, here we are. Full licensure. A private practice I built from scratch. And clients I adore.

We did good 🤍

✨ If this sounds familiar, please know: it’s not your fault, and it’s not something you would ever deserve. Abuse thrives in secrecy and silence, but support is available. Therapy, trusted loved ones, and DV resources can help you rebuild safety and reclaim your voice.

💙 You deserve relationships rooted in respect, safety, and choice.

Sometimes we want to jump right to the end, where we easily and intuitively tap into our deep knowing and inner confidence without struggle or doubt. But just like meditation and yoga, self confidence is a practice.

Two ways to begin to connect to your inner confidence are to begin practicing self love and self trust. Self love is making conscious choices to love and care for yourself - things like nurturing your body, finding time to rest, doing things that bring you joy and purpose, etc.

Self trust is when we begin to look less to the outside world for our answers and begin to turn inward to find what we need.

Especially for women and non-binary folks, we’ve often been socially conditioned to seek outward validation. But when we begin to resist that urge and instead create space in our days and our lives to turn inward, we begin to trust ourselves.

We’ll keep talking about these key ideas in this community. Come along 🤍

Stress isn’t the enemy—unmanaged stress is.

As a therapist, I see how stress silently weaves its way into relationships, parenting, work, and even how we feel about ourselves. The truth is, you don’t need to eliminate all stress (that’s impossible!), but learning to respond to it with care is everything. 💆‍♀️💭

Here are 3 gentle reminders for managing stress:

1. Your body keeps the score. When you feel tense, slow down. Breathe deeply. Move your body. Stress often lives in our shoulders, our jaw, our gut—listen to those signals.

2. You don’t have to do it all. Set boundaries like you’d set a fence around a garden. Protect your energy. It’s not selfish—it’s sustainable.

3. Regulate before you relate. Whether with your partner, your child, or your coworkers—take a beat before reacting. A pause can prevent a spiral.

🌿 You deserve support, space, and tools to help you manage life’s challenges without losing yourself in the process.
