Twelve-year-old Amelia is a social butterfly who thrives at home with her family. With the support of Private Duty Nursing, Amelia’s parents are able to continue working while ensuring she receives skilled, compassionate care.

During the week, nursing support helps meet Amelia’s medical needs. When respite care is available on weekends, her parents are able to step away from the caregiver role and take time to recharge. Amelia’s family shares that Private Duty Nursing allows them to find a sense of normalcy in their hectic life, something every family deserves, especially during the holidays.

Increased funding for Private Duty Nursing in North Carolina is essential to strengthening the nursing workforce and ensuring families like Amelia’s can access skilled care at home.

Seven-year-old Gabby from Jacksonville, NC, is spending the holidays at home with her family thanks to the continuous, high-acuity care provided by her Private Duty Nursing (PDN) team. This Medicaid-funded care helps keep her safe and supported at home each day.

PDN allows children with medical complexities all across North Carolina to go home and remain at home for the holidays. Providing more funding and access to this necessary care ensures families can remain together where children are safest and most supported: at home.

August was born with cystic fibrosis and spent the first ten months of her life in the hospital fighting for each breath. After receiving a G-tube, trach, and vent, Auggie needed nursing care and medical supplies to make her homecoming possible. That’s when the local Aveanna team came to her rescue.

Auggie was discharged from the hospital just before Thanksgiving, and Aveanna was right there to welcome her. Her parents and big sister were overjoyed, and Auggie couldn’t contain her excitement – bouncing in her chair and grinning at everyone until she finally wiped out, exhausted by the best day ever.

All week long, we’ve been highlighting the importance of handwashing for National Handwashing Awareness Week. As we head into the holidays—when we’re gathering with loved ones, traveling, and sharing meals—clean hands are one of the simplest ways to keep everyone healthy.

Take 20 seconds with soap and water before/after gatherings, shopping trips, and caring for loved ones. This small habit can make a big impact!

Just two months after joining our Aveanna family, Olivia faced sudden respiratory distress. Aveanna Nurse Danielle immediately sprang into action, contacting Olivia's pulmonologist and implementing a number of care measures to make sure Olivia and her parents never felt alone. Danielle's quick thinking and clinical expertise allowed Olivia to spend Thanksgiving safely at home with her loved ones.
