To new yoga practitioners or folks thinking about taking your first yoga class - you don't need to do be able to do headstands or splits. You don't need to be strong or flexible. You don't need to fix anything. If you have a body and you’re breathing, then you can practice yoga.

A note: I believe it’s important to go back and reflect on previous content I’ve created. It helps me generate new ideas and repurpose content for something new (more on that later).

This particular piece is often re-shared by various teachers and studios, and as I was reflecting on it, I realized that I left out something that I think is vital for new yoga practitioners to know. So, I’ve updated it here!

I went to vote today, and a person tried to give me a list of “conservative ‘anti-woke’ candidates” to vote for as I drove up. I marched right into my polling place and reported them to the poll deputy. Go vote, Florida!!!

- you have changed my life, and I am so grateful that I finally got to meet you in-person after working together for two and a half years. I’m looking forward to spending this next year learning together in ‘s 300-hr YTT!

I really want to say something thoughtful, but I am at a loss for words. I’m so grateful to know you, to learn from and alongside you, and to call you my friend. I love you!!!

I am committed to sharing yoga in a way that is physically and financially accessible for people. Folks are often excluded from this expansive practice because of high drop-in fees or teachers who don’t know how to teach to people in bodies different from their own.

I want to change that.

Starting this Sunday, July 10th, at 9AM, I’m offering a donation-based community yoga class in-person at The Neighbors (upstairs at East End Market). The suggested donation is $5, but you’re welcome to pay whatever you can even if that’s less than $5.

As a certified Accessible Yoga and Yoga for All teacher, this class will include many options for you explore what feels nourishing in your body rather than trying to bend yourself into a pretzel. Class includes mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation practices. Let’s move and breathe together as community!

You can learn more and sign up to join us using the “Community Yoga Schedule” link in my bio.

I am so grateful to share that I’m a guest teacher for the Skill in Action 75-hr Online Continuing Education Program for Yoga Teachers with Michelle Cassandra Johnson, and I have the great privilege to share rest as a practice for liberation!

The Skill in Action 75hr Online Continuing Education Program for Yoga Teachers is designed for 200hr and 300hr-trained teachers looking to deepen their spiritual practice and teaching and learn more about the intersection of justice and yoga.

This 75hr continuing education program will offer a comprehensive, inspired approach to transformational social change work. Throughout this training, you will gain knowledge and skills to connect the transformation on the mat to the change that is possible off of the mat. Many people come to their yoga mats to escape the larger cultural context. While there is value in resetting and self-care, we cannot forget our connection to the collective. Skill in Action pushes yoga teachers and practitioners to consider how their transformation on the mat can change how they are in the world. Skill in Action has the capacity to change how we work, live and build community across lines of difference.

An open letter for Comcast/NBCUniversal that I sent to our HR department today. Learning to lean into my practice of ahimsa (reducing harm) and satya (truthfulness). Yoga doesn’t always take place on a mat.

These boys have my heart today and every day. 💙

✨Visions for 2022✨

What are y’all calling in this year?

[image description: a light grey wall with Garrett’s vision board for 2022 hanging in the lower left corner. There is a wooden shelf above the vision board with a plant with long vines trailing down. The shelf also has a piece of Labradorite and a small clear quartz and smokey quartz on it. There is another vine hanging down from a shelf on the right side of the image. A small card hangs on the wall that says, “We live at the edge of the miraculous. Henry Miller.”]

That moment when you’re trying to create a video to show folks how to set up a rest nest, and Mr. Bagel refuses to budge because he’s so comfortable.

Also, I did find out that luxuriate is a word. It means “to enjoy oneself in a luxurious way,” which definitely describes Bagel when he takes over the rest nest.

By the way, there’s still time to join me virtually for the Winter Solstice Rest & Replenish. Registration closes tomorrow, December 20th, at 9PM EST/6PM PST. If you register and are unable to attend, you will receive a link to access to the recording through December 28th. Learn more and register using the link in my bio.

8. Sean and Bagel are seated in the grass, lounging in the sun. Sean is leaning over Bagel and rubbing his belly.
9. There is a small wooden staircase amidst some trees, and Garrett and Bagel are at the bottom of the staircase looking up.
10. Bagel is laying in his bed on a wooden deck with blankets covering him because it is cold. He looks like someone has disturbed him from a peaceful slumber.]
