Views & opinions on this page are my personal views & opinions and do not represent WFBMC.

Lyndsay Leigh Madden, DO, is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. A native of Kentucky, Dr. Madden received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Pikeville in 2005. She went on to earn her medical degree from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009, and, upon graduation, completed otolaryngology - head & neck surgery re

sidency training at Ohio University. After residency, she accepted a prestigious fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice at the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center, where she completed her training in 2015. Dr. Madden is a board-certified otolaryngologist whose scope of practice encompasses all aspects of laryngology, including disorders affecting voice, breathing, coughing, and swallowing, as well as other throat symptoms. Her current research interests lie in patient safety and quality improvement, neurologic disorders of the larynx, and swallowing disorders. A longtime fan of choral music and musical theater, Dr. Madden has a deep appreciation of the vocal skill and technique that are required during such performances, and it was this that led to her fascination with the science of voice and voice production. She understands that the voice is central to personal identity and human communication, as well as professional interactions among all people—from teachers and performers to members of the clergy and administrators. She feels fortunate to care for her patients and treat all aspects of laryngology—voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. Seeing her patients’ quality of life improve through treatment is the greatest reward of Dr. Madden’s career. When it comes to patient care, she approaches each patient with an open mind and utilizes an individualized treatment plan through a multi-disciplinary team approach. When she’s not working, Dr. Madden loves spending time with her husband, Dan, and their animal children, an orange tabby cat named Harold and a rescue dog named Tapp, at their home in Winston-Salem, NC. She also enjoys kayaking, travel, Bikram Yoga, and playing the Cajon.

🎆🇺🇸 Nothing better than spending the 4th with family! We had our own fireworks show, I took the plunge off the diving board (and am definitely feeling it today 😅), and—most importantly—no fingers lost and the neighborhood is still standing. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Independence Day! ❤️🤍💙

🌟 Wrapping up an unforgettable 2024 Fall Voice Conference! 🌟

I’ve been so busy, and I know I haven’t posted much throughout the conference —but this event was too incredible not to share. From powerful connections to inspiring insights, this year’s conference reminded me just how amazing our laryngology community is. I’m so grateful to everyone who brought their energy, expertise, and passion to make this a success. 🙌

Looking forward to building on this momentum and seeing what we can accomplish together. Here’s to elevating our field, one collaboration at a time! 🎤✨

Today I caught the eclipse from Winston-Salem, NC, and it was magical! 🌒 Couldn’t help but channel my inner Taylor Swift ‘Anti-Hero’ for a sec and almost made the classic mistake of staring directly at the sun. 😂 But don’t worry, I threw on my eclipse glasses from #2017 (do they expire?) faster than a Swiftie downloads a surprise song drop. Remember, folks, even when you’re feeling like the problem, it’s never a good idea to look directly at the sun! 🌞
