β I would really like to take this time to tell you a little more about me and my "Why's" for being a massage therapist. Whenever I meet other massage therapists I ask them "why?". "Why are you a massage therapist?", "How long have you been practicing?" "What is your favorite style of massage to do?" I don't ask to judge but to learn and share. I have always felt that we can all be better at anything we do by working with others. I truly love this field and the people in it. I am always fascinated by the types of people drawn to this field and the healing that they can facilitate for others. Therapists and the public have incredible stories of healing on many levels, both inside and out.
My story and my "why" is pretty simple really. I heard a radio advertisement for a massage therapy school after I had graduated high school while helping my parents run their sign company. I didn't know that was a job field up unto that point. I toured a few schools, watched a class full of people learning about anatomy and physiology, then a class filled with students doing massage and I was hooked. I saw that I could help people feel better with my hands and see measurable change. I could put my passion for the human body to work and do something fun, different, fulfilling and nearly endless in its potential for growth. What's not to love right?
Graphic design in the sign industry was fast paced, production focused and customer service driven. With therapy I could slow down and relax along with my client. There were no deadlines, phones ringing or a million things I had to do in a day. I found the perfect fit for me.
My hands and my heart are my favorite tools. I use some tools during a massage treatment if necessary but I much prefer just using my hands to feel the many layers of tissue beneath the skin. I have never been one to sit behind a desk or work in an office. I enjoy having the one on one focus with a client, problem solving, meeting a need and building a plan for someone to get where they want to be.
Everyday is different and so is my office π.
