Another week in the office creating the biological tools that patients need for their success story. Eliminating diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol. Most important getting rid of all of the various drugs and injections that are needed to treat those ailments.

Ryan Reynolds lost a bet and the result meant, in his words, “a camera being shoved up my ass.” The movie star lost a bet with his TV star slash Welsh soccer club co-owner Rob McElhenney that resulted in the “Deadpool” star getting a colonoscopy. And it actually might have saved his life.

“Ryan bet that I would not learn how to speak Welsh,” McElhenney explained (in Welsh) during a YouTube video the duo made. “He was so sure, he said he’d publicly broadcast his colonoscopy if I could do it.”

And the doctors DID find a polyp, which they removed. CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook told Reynolds it was a big deal. “This was potentially lifesaving for you. I’m not being overly dramatic, this is exactly why you do this.”

Rob McElhenney went through with one too, in the spirit of camaraderie. It was also a great way for the two of them to raise awareness for an important cause. The duo are trying to destigmatize the procedure, as both are turning 45, which is the age doctors now recommend to start having colonoscopies. The two are even teaming with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance on their Lead From Behind initiative.

Colonoscopies are a hugely important procedure, and one too many people skip until it’s too late.

“It’s not every day that you can raise awareness about something that will most definitely save lives,” Reynolds said. “That’s enough motivation for me to let you in on a camera being shoved up my ass.”
