Continuing the series on David Wilcock's work — this time we're covering the book that divided opinion more than anything else he ever published, and the claim that followed him for the rest of his career: that he had been here before!

Few books David Wilcock ever put his name to generated more ridicule — or more genuine fascination — than the one he co-wrote with researcher Wynn Free in 2004. The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce? made an argument so audacious that even many of Wilcock's most dedicated followers struggled with it: that David Wilcock was the reincarnation of Edgar Cayce, the legendary American psychic known as the Sleeping Prophet, who died in 1945 and had himself predicted he would return in a new body before the end of the century. The case Wilcock and Free assembled was, depending on your perspective, either genuinely compelling or spectacularly self-serving. The physical resemblance between the two men was striking enough to be immediately visible in side-by-side photographs. Wilcock's documented psychic experiences — prophetic dreams, verified future predictions, and spontaneous channeled readings that began in his early twenties — mirrored Cayce's own gifts with uncomfortable precision. And the content of Wilcock's channeled material aligned with Cayce's cosmic worldview so closely that Free argued no amount of study or deliberate imitation could fully account for it. The controversy, however, was immediate and lasting. Critics accused Wilcock of grandiosity at best and deliberate fabrication at worst — of constructing a mythological identity that conveniently positioned him as the heir to one of the most respected figures in the history of alternative spirituality. Even sympathetic readers noted the obvious conflict of interest in a man making the case for his own past-life exceptionalism. Wilcock never backed away from it. He acknowledged the controversy directly, argued that the evidence spoke for itself, and maintained until the end of his life that the connection to Cayce was not a claim he had chosen but a reality he had been unable to escape...
