What's the difference between home health and private duty?

We get this question every week. Both involve a nurse in your home, but they serve different needs and they're paid for differently.

Quick version:

→ Home health is short-term, doctor-ordered, and usually covered by Medicare. RNs come in to help recover from a hospital stay, manage a new diagnosis, or get back to baseline.

→ Private duty is hourly care, paid out of pocket or by long-term care insurance. The nurse stays for the shift you need — a few hours, overnight, or 24/7.

Splendid does both. We help families figure out which one fits.
