What kind of nourishment are you putting in your heart?
Hate and anger, like toxic sustenance, fuel a vicious cycle of conflict and misunderstanding. They make us vulnerable to manipulation and can trap us in a web of misguided beliefs.
Consider this: Just as a compass points the way, our emotions guide our thoughts, choices, and decisions. When our hearts are filled with love, compassion, kindness, and empathy, we navigate our decisions with greater clarity and purpose.
Choose people, choose love, nourish your heart.

How are you kicking off the new year? Thinking about a behavior challenge?
Every year, people all over the world kick off the new year by taking part in a month-long sobriety challenge known as “Dry January.”
For many, the event is viewed as a temporary test of willpower — followed by a return to old drinking habits at the month's end. But, this may not always be the case. In a study published in BMJ Open, a team of researchers in London and the United States recruited 94 healthy men and women, willing to give up alcohol for the month. A control group of 47 people continued drinking. Both groups were moderate to heavy drinkers, drinking on average about 2.5 drinks a day.
At the end of the month, researchers found that the people who gave up alcohol had significant improvements in their metabolic health, despite making little or no changes to their diets, smoking, or amount of exercise. The no-drinking group lost an average of 4.5 lbs, saw significant reductions in blood pressure, and they had a “dramatic” reduction in the level of insulin resistance, a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes. They also experienced sharp decreases in cancer related growth factors.
None of these improvements were seen in the control group.
6-8 months later, the participants were contacted for a follow-up to see how they were doing. The group that eliminated alcohol for one month maintained a significant reduction in their average alcohol consumption, while the control group did not.
Using a questionnaire to screen problematic drinking behaviors, the researchers found that the habits in the group abstaining from drinking for one month had changed from “hazardous” to “low-risk,” while the control group’s habits stayed about the same.
So, what do you say? Let's jump on the Dry January Bandwagon together and make lasting improvements to our health in 2023.

We all have an inner critic. Sometimes this inner voice can be helpful and keep us motivated to keep working toward our goals— like when it reminds us that what we're about to eat isn't healthy or what we're about to do may not be in our best interest.
For some of us, this voice can be more harmful than helpful, particularly when it takes the form of negative self-talk.
Negative self-talk can have a profound impact on our mental health. One large-scale study found that rumination and self-blame over negative events were linked to an increased risk of mental health problems.
Focusing on negative thoughts can also demotivate us and create feelings of helplessness. This critical inner dialogue has even been linked to depression, so it's definitely something to be mindful of.
How can you minimize negative self-talk?
Pay attention to your thoughts and catch your critic - If you wouldn't say it to a family member or friend, you shouldn't be saying it to yourself.
Remind yourself that thoughts and feelings aren't always reality. Mindfulness practices can help you learn to be more of an observer - capable of evaluating a situation without placing judgment.
Challenge your inner critic - no one likes an exaggeration

This is a question I get asked ALL THE TIME... What kind of detox program do you recommend...
Here's the deal, there's little scientific evidence to support the wild claims most dietary cleanses promise. The fact is you don't need to purchase a product to cleanse your body. Your liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract do a great job of detoxing it daily. If you're looking to boost your body's ability to detox, focus on eating more whole foods, drinking water, and removing highly processed foods from your diet.

Welcome to Zealot Wellness. My name is Heather Behr and I started this practice with one thing in mind, INSPIRING CHANGE.
I founded Zealot Wellness with the belief that education is the best way to motivate and empower a community to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle behaviors. By incorporating nutrition, yoga, and mindfulness education and training into my wellness programs, I see improvements not only in physical health but also mental health as we begin to bridge the gap between the mind and body.
Education and Training: I completed my master’s degree in biomedicine, focusing on age-related diseases and metabolism. During my studies, I was intrigued by the influence nutrition and stress had over chronic disease and sought further exploration into nutrition based science and integrative medicine. Currently, I am finishing the final stage of my Ph.D., investigating the associations between self-care practices and dietary prudence (ABD). My research has led me to a unique understanding of the essential role self-care practice plays in optimal health. Because of this, I’ve made it my mission to create a culture of wellness within Celebration, Florida. My goal is to make your health, your priority.
I am qualified to educate, teach, and train all things related to nutrition, biomedicine, yoga, and mind-body medicine.
