As a cardiologist, I am often giving out pills to treat illnesses. I have learned with my illness how to treat people with diet before I get to medications. My patients are doing fabulously. Their heart disease is getting better, their joints are improving. People have had improvements in their allergies and skin imperfections. There are ways to get better and there are ways to prevent chronic illness. If I could help you without medications, why wouldn't you try?

Where do they get their information? How credible are they? You can’t know everything, so it’s important to find people you can trust and put your faith in. Choose your inner circle carefully.

I have . I was told that I would be on medicine for the rest of my like and that it was incurable. I was told that nutrition has no role in treatment of this illness. Nutraceuticals are now a 500 billion dollar business. Nowadays, our society is so focused on longevity, which is great! Are nutraceuticals really the best way to do this though?

The reality is that there isn’t a magic pill we can take to become healthier.

The best way to be healthy is to eat healthy. When we eat the whole food, we can more than just a 1-2 nutrients that are bottled in a vitamin, we also get fiber and other nutrients/antioxidants that scientists are just beginning to understand. There is more to a tomato or sweet potato than potassium. There are other nutrients too. When we take a vitamin, we only benefit from that single nutrient.

Eat the whole food. All day, every day. Better than any nutraceuticals you can buy.

I like the buy good, healthy food--that's where I spend my money.
