At the time of the inception of the Pitt County Alumnae Chapter, the demographics of the area were beginning to change from being primarily rural to metropolitan. The twenty-six charter members of the Pitt County Alumnae Chapter, recognizing the growth in the area decided it was necessary to reach out to the people outside of the county seat of Greenville, North Carolina to help improve their quality of life in any was possible through the implementation of Grand Chapter's programs. Those programs emphasize Physical and Mental Health, Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement, and Political Awareness and Involvement. The Pitt County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has a widespread service area that includes, Winterville, Ayden, Grifton, Bethel, Stokes, Farmville, Falkland, Pactolus and Belvoir. During the chapters soon to be fourteen year history, its primary goals and objectives have been to help others through educating people in the community about resources that are available to help improve the quality of their lives on a day-to-day basis. The chapter has formed partnerships with other public service organizations in the area, such as the Pitt County Boys and Girls Club, the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity and the March of Dimes just to name a few, to accomplish its goals.
