Please take the time to contact your legislators! Medicaid cuts could include Katie Beckett, CLTS, Family Care and IRIS and more!

MEDICAID ACTION STEPS FOR TODAY. Your calls are getting attention by Congress. A few members are publicly saying ideas to cut Medicaid and the ACA will impact too many people in their districts.

Today and tomorrow Congressional Republicans are at a retreat meeting to decide which of the $2.17 trillion in federal Medicaid spending cuts will be in a big bill (reconciliation) that can move fast and be passed with fewer votes. Congress needs to hear from people like you NOW that Medicaid cuts should not be in the reconciliation bill.

Congress will also decide what cuts will be in a second bill (continuing resolution) that has to pass by March 14th. Medicaid cuts could be in one or both bills.

Federal lawmakers need to know how Medicaid helps you and your family, and what it would mean to your life if the services and supports you have are reduced or stopped.

ACTION STEPS for TODAY AND TOMORROW

1. Make three phone calls to federal lawmakers who will decide whether to cut federal Medicaid spending

U.S. Senator, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (202) 224-5653

U.S. Senator, Sen. Ron Johnson (202) 224-5323

Your Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives (Look up your U.S. Representative)

2. . Ask to speak to the staffer in charge of Medicaid/Health policy

When you call, ask to speak with the lead policy person on Medicaid or Health. Make sure you say you are a constituent and your request is urgent or time-sensitive. Ask for the policy person's name and direct e-mail so you can follow up on Medicaid issues.

You can ask for things like an in-district meeting, a listening session on Medicaid, invite them into your home or business to see Medicaid at work, or to commit to not cut funding on critical programs.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the moments that make life meaningful, even amidst the hardships and challenges we all face. Life is a journey of highs and lows, and unfortunately, the lows can sometimes outweigh the highs. The effort to stay positive and create uplifting moments can feel overwhelming, and for many, it may eventually feel insufficient.

At times, individuals may find themselves feeling depleted and burned out. Some are drained not only by life's demands but also by those who should be sources of love and support—individuals who instead take and take, like parasites, assuming an endless reservoir of energy, patience, and resources. This can leave the giver feeling hollow, their light dimmed by the weight of constant giving without replenishment.

It is vital to recognize the importance of mutual respect and genuine support for those who give so much of themselves. Offering gratitude and appreciation is not just an act for special occasions but a practice for every day. People have a finite amount of energy—both emotional and physical—and when that reserve is exhausted, it may be impossible to reignite their inner spark.

This Thanksgiving, take time to truly value the people in your life. Acknowledge their contributions, show gratitude for their efforts, and offer your support. Each of us only has so much time and fuel, and once that light is extinguished, it cannot be replaced. Cherish those who matter to you, for their presence and contributions are irreplaceable.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) launched in 2023 a new service that will transform the support structure for families of children with delays, disabilities, special health care needs, or mental health conditions. Wisconsin Wayfinder: Children’s Resource Network includes a user-friendly website and toll-free helpline that lets families easily connect with real people – dedicated children’s resource guides – who will help navigate through the essential services and supports that will enable their children to thrive.

Have you ever heard of Children's Community Opportunity Program (CCOP)? Ever wonder what services cover what benefits and who to contact next if one program doesn't cover an item you need for the child or youth you care for?

This is a great resource to reference for any of those questions. If you don't qualify for Medicaid (Badgercare) or CLTS there is also CCOP to explore as an option. In some cases, you can qualify for all three programs. Hope this helps some families meet your loved one's needs without as many barriers. As we all know we rather be spending our time on our kids then playing phone tag and waiting for answers.

Did you know about the WiTransitionApp? It's a tool for helping Wisconsin students and their families engage in the transition planning process by prioritizing students' preferences, interests, strengths, and needs. It provides questions allowing students to give input for their postsecondary transition plan, often called PTP.
Available in iTunes and Google Play (Free).

I am thrilled to have been selected for the Wisconsin Partners in Policymaking training program. The policymaking program is a six‐session advocacy and systems change training program that develops future leaders across the state who are able to work with legislators and communities on policies and initiatives that will support the full participation and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all aspects of life.

Advocacy for youth and community members with neurodiverse and other health challenges has been a priority of mine for years already. With two bright young men with neurodiverse challenges my mama bear 🐻 instincts to move mountains ⛰️ has pushed me far beyond my confort zones. I'm so excited to learn and connect with other passionate individuals to raise awareness essential to continued progress toward aiding anyone with disabilities to reach their full potential.

Applications to be considered has been extended until October 18th apply today to join the movement!

10/01/2024

When disasters strike, our only priority as caregivers and parent figures is getting our kids and loved ones to safety. In those moments, losing focus and forgetting vital items in the rush is easy. Write down a list of critical items and get douplicates when possible that can always be bagged and ready to go at a moments notice.

I keep a bag in my vehicle with essential items ready for whatever happens. With my nursing background, and experiences have taught me nothing is worse than having the knowledge to help in a situation only to lack the supplies to effectively help.

Create a safety bag. Write down essential documentation such as medications being taken, medical history, medical systems your family uses, doctors they see, and medical history numbers. Add notes a bystander could use to aid your love one. These include coping skills, triggers, allergies, particular personality traits, etc. Have an emergency contact list available.

In the event, something happens to you have a list just as you would for a babysitter ensuring the safe and comforting care you offer to be given in your absence. We never want to depend on others we are often the rock others count on. We can continue to be the rock with planning ahead as we have grown accustomed to unplanned emergent situations.

Our hearts ❤️ go out to the families and caregivers navigating the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
