At 4 years old, even the smallest experiences can shape a child’s confidence for years to come.

For some children, summer camp is their very first experience making friends on their own.

At the YMCA, volunteers are the heart of our mission. Their time, compassion, leadership, and dedication help strengthen our community every single day. From mentoring youth and supporting programs to creating welcoming spaces for all, volunteers make a lasting impact not only within our YMCA, but throughout the communities we serve.

Last week at the YMCA of the Pines Annual Meeting held at our Medford site, we were honored to recognize two outstanding individuals from the Gloucester County YMCA whose service truly embodies the spirit of volunteerism.

Congratulations to our Adult Volunteer of the Year, Akeem Carter, pictured alongside his wife, Kinte, his son Cameron, and Gloucester County YMCA Executive Director, Donna Wells. Akeem’s commitment, generosity, and willingness to give back continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members and families.

We also proudly recognized Aleya Rivera as our Youth Volunteer of the Year. Aleya’s commitment to serving other youth and her dedication to our YMCA community are an inspiration to all. She is pictured with YMCA of the Pines CEO, Mark Dibble.

To Akeem, Aleya, and all of our volunteers — thank you! Your service helps us continue building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community for everyone. We are incredibly grateful for all that you do and look forward to continuing this important work together. 💙

Big improvements are coming to the Gloucester County YMCA! 💙❄️🔧

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating the best possible experience for our members, we’re investing in a major HVAC system upgrade to improve comfort, energy efficiency, air quality, and the long-term sustainability of our facility.

This important project is one of many continuous improvements we’re making throughout the year to better serve our community and ensure our YMCA remains a welcoming, comfortable, and high-quality space for everyone who walks through our doors.

📅 Please note:
The facility will be closed to all members on Monday, May 11th to complete this upgrade.

🏊 Swim lessons will still take place as scheduled beginning at 5:00 PM.

✅ All regular operating hours will resume Tuesday, May 12th.

We know temporary closures can be inconvenient, and we truly appreciate your patience and support as we continue investing in the future of your YMCA. These improvements are about more than buildings and equipment — they’re about creating a stronger, healthier, and more comfortable experience for our members, families, and community for years to come.
