Last week, the Gloucester County YMCA was proud to host a collaborative community meeting led by Dr. Dan Jurman, DMin, Executive Director of the United Way of Gloucester County.

Our shared goal is simple but powerful: to build a coalition where the organizations serving Gloucester County can come together, collaborate, and create a better future for all.

Leaders from agencies and nonprofits across the county gathered to brainstorm, exchange ideas, and begin shaping meaningful solutions that strengthen our collective ability to serve our community.

When organizations unite around a common purpose, real impact happens. Together, we are building stronger partnerships, stronger systems, and a stronger Gloucester County.

The Gloucester County YMCA is proud to celebrate the successful completion of our first Lifeguard Scholarship Program!

In partnership with the County of Gloucester, we were able to provide six local high school students with the opportunity to participate in a lifeguard preparation course, along with CPR and Lifeguard certifications — and we are thrilled to share that all six students successfully passed the program this evening!

This initiative was about more than earning certifications. It was about empowering youth, building confidence, and preparing the next generation to enter the workforce. Participants gained valuable job readiness skills including resume building, interview preparation, and professional development tips to help them succeed in their first jobs.

So often high school students find it challenging to find a job because of lack of experience. With national lifeguard shortages seeing greater influences in lower income communities, this program helps Gloucester County give these students a boost and keep one more pool running over the summer months.

Special thanks to our Aquatics Coordinator, Matt Weaver, for leading this impactful program, and to Executive Director, Donna Wells, for providing guidance and career readiness support to these future leaders.

We are excited to continue investing in youth development and strengthening our community by supporting the next generation of lifeguards.

This morning our Sync’d 2 the Beat Cardio Drumming crew showed up and showed out! 🔥

These amazing ladies powered through 45 minutes of heart-pumping cardio drumming, turning rhythm into a workout and celebrating International Women’s Day the best way we know how — moving, laughing, and lifting each other up. 💜

At the Y, we’re proud to create spaces where strength, friendship, and community come together.
