The history of Undoing Racism in Worcester stems back to 2005, when grassroots organizers of color decided that there needed to be more explicit conversations regarding racism and it's impact on individual and community health and wellness. These individuals began engaging key systems (criminal justice, youth development, public health, and economic development) and community members in conversations about disparities to re-frame the discussion explicitly about the ways individual and institutional racism are creating these disparities. By 2008, these discussions grew into multiple coalitions that seek to dismantle racism and build equity for communities of color. Since then several cohorts of individuals have been recruited to participate in the training series "Undoing Racism" put on by the People's Institute of Survival and Beyond. These trainings have been supported in various ways by partners including the Henry Lee Willis Community Center, Mosaic Cultural Complex, Black Legacy Coalition, Worcester Partnership for Racial and Ethnic Health Equity, Worcester Division of Public Health, Boston Public Health Commission, and the YWCA. This site aims to provide a network of support for individuals who live and/or serve Worcester, MA & surrounding towns who have led and/or participated in Undoing Racism or other antiracism trainings and/or have a vested interest in engaging in antiracist work.
