Presidents’ Day is often filled with conversation about leadership and legacy. But for working people, the presidency is measured less in monuments and more in paychecks, safety rules, and the right to stand together on the job. Across industries and communities, the occupant of the White House shapes whether workers have real power—or whether that power is steadily stripped away and handed to wealthy interests and corporate executives.

Art Workers United - Toledo Museum of Art (AWU-TMA) members recognize that winning a strong first contract is about being prepared and ready to fight for the issues that matter to their members. The negotiating team has been meeting on weekends and evenings, researching and comparing comparable contracts while prioritizing the issues that matter to their membership. Union leaders and AFSCME Ohio Council 8 staff recently completed their first bargaining session with the administration.

AFSCME Ohio Council 8 would like to honor AFSCME President Lee Saunders during African History Month. Recently, President Saunders announced his retirement from AFSCME after more than 50 years of dedicated service to the labor movement. AFSCME Ohio Council 8 is grateful for his steady and consistent leadership as our International Union's President over the past 14 years. In the coming weeks, we hope to share our cherished memories of President Saunders. We thank him for his leadership.

Saunders energized AFSCME's activist culture, leaving it on strong footing for the future

Love is more than chocolates and roses. It's early mornings, long shifts, tough calls and quiet sacrifices. It's public service workers choosing their communities every single day. This Valentine's Day, we honor the dedication, care and commitment that keeps our communities strong.

Politics don’t belong in pensions. Boards with more political appointees consistently underperform — hurting retirees in the long run.

Retirement systems work better when the people they serve have a seat at the table.
