Little bit of an update after less than 48 hours....
We are working on packing weight on during probably one of the hardest times of the year. He has quality alfalfa that we are having to expedite him onto, and unlimited orchard alfalfa mix. He is also on about 8lbs of feed a day right now, but we want his weight to come primarily from forage.
I also blame myself. I should have brought him home sooner, but we were in the process of transitioning pastures and set up with no way to bring him back right away, hence his need to be boarded elsewhere until we were finished. Still, an owner, and horse, should NEVER have to worry about this being a problem, especially when this person is a horse person. Just overall, a very frustrating situation...
Any guesses on how long it will take for him to be his normal fall/winter weight? I am going to say 45 days!

We brought King home yesterday, much sooner than we had anticipated, due to a lack in standard of care at his boarding location. We are glad to have him home, and are now focusing on getting weight on him and getting him through the rest of fall and winter!
We will update soon and look forward to his next steps in his next adventures!!

A day late (again) but happy 5 months to Sassy!!
We are so thrilled with how she is looking as she grows and will likely put her up for sale in the near future! Can definitely see her as a show jumper/eventer or even x-country with her size, stature and bone!
So excited to see how she looks into spring if she is still here at the farm!

Our day?
Oh ya know, just unloading 6 ton of our orchard/alfalfa mix we get for the winter every season! This typically lasts us about 6 to 7 months, and we will bring in additional alfalfa mid season if needed! Since this is a 12 ton barn, we had plenty of space to spread it out! Have already pulled the test for this batch and excited to see where the numbers are!
Very thankful to our hay guy, his extra set of hands and my hubby for helping to get it all in the barn! Also very blessed to be able to afford to do this and live a dream every single day.

The King is "home"!
Yes, he is ok! After some discussion and thinking, I decided it was best to bring him back to WA since we were trying to race a clock. Legs are cold and tight, no injuries or issues, and he is still strong as ever!!
He is taking his fall/winter vacation and living his best life!
We are so thankful to everyone involved in his 2025 racing season! It takes a village to make these dreams happen and he was well loved and taken care of!
We are excited to see what the future holds for him in 2026!! Emerald Downs is on the list of possibilities for sure!

Well, last night was... interesting.
I was contacted by several people between last night and this morning about what happened with King and his race last night.
Firstly, he is ok - the scratch from the race was not vet related.
Second, I had no clue a track could be so small, that it would lack jockeys in case of a last minute injury or issue.
King was scratched from his race last night via the race stewards. The reason given to my trainer was that his jockey was injured in the previous race, and they did not have another jockey to ride King in his place. No jockey, no race.
Needless to say, there was a lot of confusion, and a lot of frustration. I have never been to, or seen a track where the number of Jockeys is so low, you literally don't have enough to cover last minute changes.
I am a firm believer things happen for a reason and there was a reason he wasn't supposed to race. It doesn't make it any better, it doesn't make up the week we missed, but it is the reality.
I got a video this morning from Howie of King being galloped around the track and he looks happy as ever. He is focused, he is calm, he is in his zone. It absolutely makes my heart sing.
This has been such a wild learning curve for myself and King. Thankfully, he is in great hands, and I am hoping these next couple races will give us what we need to send him to Turf Paradise where several think he will really excel.
Thank you to all who contacted me to check on him. You all are the absolute best and I wish King knew how much support he had!!

Some good words all of us horse owners can truly understand.

I DID NOT KNOW...

I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you.
I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable.
I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first.
I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right.
I did not know a horse could break your heart.
I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen apart.
I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in yourself.
I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic, and dedication.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does.
I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget.
I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble.
I did not know a horse could make you a winner.
I did not know a horse could also teach you how to lose gracefully.
I did not know a horse could instill patience in you.
I did not know a horse could make you listen better.
I did not know a horse could give you their heart.
I did not know a horse could change your life.
I did not know a horse could do all these things...
but now I know.
