Well, we struggled a little.
There were variables here that were new for him, and it showed. He was out of his element and with a new track he just arrived at, there is a part of me that isn't surprised. He finished 6th and still ran well after he was able to gather himself. After having a very brief conversation with the trainer, he has no doubt he will settle in great after a week or two of time on the track.
As an owner of these guys, especially if you also breed them, you get to know, see the potential and do what is best for them. King is a quick learner and while yesterday was not ideal, like kids, sometimes you have to set them up a little out of their comfort zone to really let them grow. I watched that race a million times and evaluated every part of it to a point. I saw the same horse I saw when he ran his first race at Emerald Downs and that is OK. He came back ears up, plenty of run left in him and just a little out of his zone!
Not going to lie - at first I wondered if this was a good idea. But I will say, this horse 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 his last timed work at Emerald Downs on August 30th. This is what he LOVES and when he figures this track out, he will be something!
