Access to safe donor milk can make a life-changing difference for babies with medical needs and families facing breastfeeding challenges.

That’s why WellSpan, in collaboration with the Mid-Atlantic Mothers' Milk Bank and made possible by the generosity of a Kids First grant, has launched the region’s first breast milk access and donation point – the WellSpan Breast Milk Access and Donation Center, located within WellSpan Pediatric Medicine – South Queen Street.

Holly Updegraff, a current donor to the milk bank, shared her perspective as a mom who had experienced postpartum complications and struggled to help her son find interest in breastfeeding:

“I can help so many other babies. I feel like this is my way of giving back.”

Throughout WellSpan, our more than 800 volunteers quietly do the work that makes a vast difference in the lives they touch — helping visitors find their way, delivering flowers and mail with a smile, supporting pet therapy visits and even cuddling NICU babies. During Volunteer Appreciation Week, we celebrate and honor their selfless contributions.

Take Arlene Spicher and Carolyn O’Brien for example, who have contributed the first and second most service hours volunteered at WellSpan. Arlene has gathered more then 17,500 hours over the last 24 years of her service to WellSpan, and Carolyn has volunteered 12,000 hours.

Combined, the pair has contributed the equivalent of more than 700 40-hour work weeks through their volunteerism and Arlene encourages others to volunteer as well:

"You'll be surprised what you can do for others. That's what life is all about — helping people."

Thank you to all of our WellSpan volunteers for the difference you make each day! Interested in becoming a WellSpan volunteer? Learn more here: https://www.wellspan.org/about-wellspan/volunteer

Celebrating the United States of America turning 250 in Chambersburg!

Franklin County marked America’s 250th celebration with a spirited parade hosted by the Franklin County Visitors Bureau, and WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital was proud to be part of it! With more than 35 team members and leaders walking together last weekend, we showcased our deep roots in the community we’ve proudly cared for since 1895.

Our Americana-themed float featured a festive red, white and blue balloon arch, a Chambersburg Hospital banner and plenty of patriotic details. More than a parade, the celebration was a tribute to the strong community we're honored to serve.

Thank you, Chambersburg, for celebrating with us! 🇺🇸

“We are thrilled to be part of this initiative for the Cancer Patient Help Fund, which provides cancer patients with help and hope in a time of need,” said Dr. Nikhilesh Korgaonkar, vice president and chief medical officer of Oncology Services. “It’s very gratifying to see these fantastic athletes playing for this fantastic cause.”

“York is my home.” 💙

For Kristin Houck, an operating room nurse manager at WellSpan York Hospital, nursing is in her blood.

Kristin began her career with WellSpan while she was in college. After three years, she made the jump to a full-time role and started utilizing the educational benefits offered to team members. She enrolled in nursing school at York College and got to work. As a graduate nurse, she quickly fell in love with surgery and climbed her way up the clinical ladder.

For Kristin, her career at WellSpan just makes sense. Her mom attended the former York Hospital School of Nursing, then worked for WellSpan for several years. Kristin was born at WellSpan York Hospital and had nursing clinicals at the same hospital. But what has kept her at WellSpan all these years?

“The opportunities here for advancement never end, there’s always more to be achieved.”

Kristin celebrated 20 years with WellSpan last year – help us offer her warm congratulations in the comment section!

Healthy feet and happy feet go hand in hand! 👟 Thank you to all who joined us at WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital for our recent Find Your Fit Shoe Clinic.

This event paired community members with the information they need about proper footwear and foot health. Properly fitted shoes are a crucial part of support and stability. The team conducted foot and shoe screenings to help identify and address issues, while local vendors joined us to offer their expertise.

Celebrating 10 years of cancer care close to home 🎉

Last week, we were honored to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the WellSpan Medical Oncology and Hematology - Sechler Family Cancer Center — marking a decade of bringing compassionate, high-quality cancer care to Lebanon County.

Since opening in 2016, Sechler has cared for thousands of patients by bringing oncology, infusion, radiation, navigation and support services together under one roof, making cancer care more accessible and patient-centered.

We’re grateful to the dedicated clinicians and team, generous donors, community partners and the Sechler family for helping make this vision a reality and for supporting patients and families every step of the way. 💙
