This performance advice is much easier said, than done…
•
Maybe it’s because “training our strengths” is more fun.
•
Or maybe we simply like to do what we are good at more than practice something we find difficult.
•
Either way, it’s important to remember that being a cyclist requires us to climb, descend, turn, pace, fuel, sprint, attack, and time trial in the same event.
•
Simply stated, cycling demands that a rider be a complete athlete.
•
Whereas other sports get to focus on offense, defense, or some other specific aspect of the game, even a casual rider must be able to do it all.
•
That notion is the inspiration for today’s as the offseason is a great time to reinforce strengths, but more importantly, to develop weak links in our capacities.
•
So this week, and all offseason, lean into the uncomfortable work that is developing your weaknesses.
•
It’s not glamorous work, but it will yield significant results next season!
•
Athlete Highlight: Charlie Marinko put together an incredible ride at this years Filthy 50 taking more than 20min off his finishing time from last year!
•
Charlie was disciplined about his pacing, as well as his fueling, so that he could put the fitness he has worked so hard to develop to the test.
•
And we’d say it was a great success!
•
His commitment to work on undeveloped components of his fitness and race craft culminated in a season-best performance.
•
Congratulations Charlie! We are so proud of you, Buddy! Hard earned and well deserved!!!
