Lactobacillus is the cornerstone of many traditional fermentation practices. This beneficial microorganism can be cultivated through a simple process that begins with rice water, which is left to ferment for approximately two weeks. During this time, naturally occurring microbes begin to flourish—marking the first step in a fascinating transformation.

Once Lactobacillus is established, the possibilities are endless. In our upcoming fermentation class, we will guide you through the essential techniques and steps to harness these microbes for culinary, health, soil, and plant health benefits.

Here are a few healthy and delicious things you can make:
• Naturally carbonated lemonades and sodas
• Fermented vegetables such as carrots, beets, and garlic
• Fresh cheese
• Sour cream
• Homemade yogurt

Today at DMF Living Soils was an incredibly educational experience! We had the pleasure of hosting families to learn about the chicken processing process and ensuring that no part of the chicken goes to waste. We explored the anatomy of the chicken, giving everyone a chance to see and understand its different body parts in detail.

A big thank you to everyone who came out! It was wonderful meeting you all and spending a very educational morning together. Looking forward to more learning opportunities like this in the future!
