🧠💊 At the intersection of medicine and behavioural sciences lies the effects of medications on our personality and behaviour. While some effects may be positive and part of the therapeutic rationale, they may also impact a patient’s quality of life, such as drug-induced impulse control disorders. Which medicines can cause such disorders, and how does impulsivity manifest?

Michele Fusaroli, PhD student at Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna and visiting scientist at UMC, will join us on the podcast to discuss the behavioural effects of drugs.

My colleague from India Ms. Savya Singh posted interesting and important publication in the LinkedIn application, where she described her insight to the problem of adverse events occurred due to inappropriate treatment in COVID-19 Pandemic period. Even she used very certain title for that publication "The Journey of Pharmacovigilance in COVID-19 Pandemic. So I was eager to share this here also.

The covid19 pandemic has become another major event along with the thalidomide tragedy, during which there were many adverse reactions, as well as cases of lack of effectiveness, due to the absence of standards for the treatment of a new viral infection, when doctors prescribed treatment empirically to save the lives of patients. This situation was also a consequence of the absence of time to make decisions for effective and safe treatment. I am sure that many complications and even deaths have been associated with inappropriate drug prescriptions, although not all cases of Adverse Events have been officially recorded. Many patients died due to lack of effect from the prescribed treatment.
This tragic and at the same time invaluable experience must be used to analyze these undesirable events. This is great experience in the field of pharmacovigilance, which needs to be carefully studied.
Many different little-studied vaccines have entered the market, prepared using different methods, with different frequency and method of administration, which implies a high risk of various side effects, which also need to be registered and studied.
