Happy Black History Month!

This month, I will be running a campaign to promote invisible illnesses as well as myself as someone who has an invisible illness.

I am one of 32 million Americans who is afflicted with multiple invisible disabilities. After 20+ years of suffering unknowingly, I was diagnosed with Behcet’s Disease in 2012, a rare auto-immune condition that attacks my blood vessels all over my body. Two years later, I was diagnosed with Crohns and Fibromyalgia.

Despite these diagnoses, I still persevered and accomplished great things over my lifetime. I have traveled the world, moved to the US Virgin Islands, obtained my undergraduate and master’s degrees, and excelled in my career in Laboratory Medicine.

For the past year, I have been unable to work. Unfortunately, I was denied for Disability twice. So, I'm asking for your support while I appeal the decision. I created two ways to help support me in my journey to recovery. I created this campaign not only to get assistance for medical expenses while we go through the appeal process, but to spread awareness of the invisible illness community.

It started with "sparks" of pain in my legs, then a full blown paralysis attack. I became dizzy, disoriented, ears ringing painfully. Babe had to catch me several times as I fell into the table and kitchen door.

When I woke up to go to the bathroom, my chest was covered in a bruise like rash (similar to the one I got on my neck in April), feverish, swollen, lil bruises up and down my legs where the "sparks" first happened.

My body is pulsating FIRE right now.

Needless to say, this will be a R&R day.

I'm just EXTREMELY grateful that I can, do that instead of having to force myself to an ungrateful job or call out and worry about missing a day of work.

I am my job. And my well being is an 24/7 task.

What are some ways that you nurture your body when it's alerting you that it needs love and attention?

Bipolar Disorders May Represent a Primary Feature Of Behçet’s Disease (American College of Rheumatology)

Conclusion: Our results show a high frequency of psychiatric disorders in BD patients. This elevated prevalence both in BD patient with or without neurological involvement, independently from disease activity and significantly than in disease controls, strongly suggest that psychiatric disorders may represent a primary feature of BD.
