OUR STUDENT'S STORY

Mr. Dan, now 42, grew up in Tien Hai, Thai Binh. His family faced challenges as his father, and other relatives, were affected by Agent Orange. For Mr. Dan, the impact was profound: he was born completely blind, making his early years incredibly difficult. Despite his disability, Mr. Dan was determined to get an education. He studied alongside students who could see, from elementary school all the way through university. Beyond academics, he loved joining school cultural events. These were places where he felt happy and connected. He fondly remembers a small but powerful memory from middle school: during a rainy cultural event, his teachers took extra care of him and his visually impaired friends, picking them up and even buying them raincoats. He still cherishes this memory because it showed him the warmness and kindness of people outside his family. His dedication paid off. Mr. Dan went on to earn a degree in Economic Law from the Open University, a testament to his hard work and resilience.

While pursuing his studies, Mr. Dan also began his career as a masseur in 2005, right after high school. He was diligent and eager to learn, quickly building his skills, gaining loyal clients, and securing a steady income. He continued this work until 2016. That year, Mr. Dan was appointed Chairman of the Association for the Blind in Tien Hai District. His new role meant he was very busy organizing the association and looking after its members. This reduced the time he could spend on massage. He shifted to being a supporter, connector, and representative for the local visually impaired community. However, on June 30th of this year, with the dissolving of district-level Associations for the Blind, Mr. Dan officially stepped down from his leadership role. He has now returned to his massage profession. Coming back after a break made him realize the need to refresh his knowledge and learn new techniques. This led him to enroll in our massage training course this year, aiming to improve his skills and techniques to serve his clients better.

Currently, Mr. Dan works at a massage center and also provides home massage services. He has even worked with many foreign visitors staying in local hotels. His future plans involve moving into rehabilitation therapy. He observes that general relaxation massage is becoming very common and perhaps too crowded in his area. He wants to focus on techniques that offer long-term health benefits, such as acupressure for neck and shoulder pain, post-stroke recovery, and treating chronic aches. In the long run, Mr. Dan hopes to open his own practice and work from home. After two decades in the profession, even with interruptions, he remains convinced that this work not only provides for him but also helps others achieve better health through his skilled hands and patience.

OUR STUDENT'S STORY

Dang Van Tiep, was born in 1985, is from Thai Binh province. At just one year old, he unfortunately suffered a high fever accompanied by convulsions. The fever left severe after-effects, causing his eyesight to deteriorate significantly. Since then, his vision has been limited to 0.5/10, greatly impacting his education. He finished middle school but then stopped his studies to work and help his family.
In the following years, Tiep began a nomadic life, working various manual jobs from North to South Vietnam, including construction assistant and lottery ticket vendor. He had relatives in Rach Gia, Kien Giang province in the South, so he moved there to sell lottery tickets on the street. Despite the demanding work and unstable income, he strove to be independent and not rely on anyone.
In 2006, through a friend from the Thai Binh Provincial Association for the Blind, he learned about massage therapy. Recognizing that this profession suited his circumstances and health, he pursued it and has been dedicated to it ever since. Initially, he was unfamiliar with the work, but he diligently learned and gradually became proficient. Massage therapy not only provided him with a more stable income but also aligned with his health and personal situation, enabling him to live confidently and without self-consciousness.

Currently, he and his sighted wife run a small massage establishment in their hometown. The facility is operated solely by the couple, as they haven't yet been able to hire additional staff. In addition to serving clients at their home, he also provides rehabilitation and therapeutic massage services at clients' residences upon request. Although the work is often tiring, he consistently maintains it due to his familiarity with and love for the profession. Customers trust him and return regularly, which motivates the couple to work even harder.

Beyond his work, Tiep enjoys playing Chinese chess. He once won first prize in Chinese chess at the commune level and regularly participates in friendly matches and competitions with friends in the district. For him, playing chess is a way to train his mind, keeping him sharp and relaxed after work. Furthermore, he is a Party member, actively participating in local activities and the Association for the Blind. He currently holds the position of Vice President of the Thai Binh Provincial Blind Massage Club. In this role, he frequently organizes massage training sessions and experience-sharing events among members. Every few months, he selects skilled individuals from various establishments to invite them to instruct and exchange new techniques, helping everyone improve their skills and work more effectively.

When attending our advanced massage training courses, Tiep clearly defined his goals. He stated that he participates not only to learn new techniques but also to learn how to work more efficiently, with less strain, and to extend his career lifespan. More importantly, he feels responsible for learning to impart knowledge to his colleagues back home, as not everyone has the opportunity to travel far for training. He believes this is very beneficial and meaningful, providing a livelihood for many. Besides his professional experience, members often consult him when they want to invest in equipment for their facilities, from building spa beds and choosing heating pads and retractable mats to smaller items that enhance comfort for both therapists and clients. He often advises on solutions that are both affordable and practical, especially for newcomers or those facing difficult circumstances.

In the near future, he hopes to expand his establishment and hire more staff to serve more clients and create additional jobs for visually impaired people in the local area. He said, "I've been able to make a living from this profession for over a decade, and now I just hope there will be more people doing this job so that many like me can have an income and live more independently and stably."

OUR STUDENT'S STORY

Phuong Nhi, 28 years old, was born in the beautiful city of Hue, Vietnam. From birth, Nhi had a congenital eye condition inherited from her family; both her grandfather and father also experienced vision impairment. Nhi continued this legacy, with her vision at only about 10%. This allows her to see shapes and navigate vaguely but not clearly.

Despite her challenging circumstances, Nhi persevered, got a Bachelor's degree in Literature Pedagogy from Hue University of Education. She currently works at the Hue City Association for the Blind, supporting and teaching visually impaired individuals. She loves this job because it not only aligns with her expertise but also has deep humanitarian value. Nhi shares that teaching the visually impaired presents many difficulties. However, these challenges have helped her mature in her outlook on life and understand the diverse circumstances within the blind community, fostering empathy and shared understanding. She's not just a teacher; she also learns a great deal from her work, such as how to plan care for the visually impaired and how to convey information effectively so they can easily access knowledge.

Beyond her role as a teacher, Nhi actively seeks out other learning opportunities to develop herself and support her community. One such path is massage therapy – a common profession that can provide stable income for visually impaired individuals in Vietnam. Recognizing its potential, she decided to take our advance therapeutic massage training course. This allows her to gain skills for additional income alongside teaching, and she can also pass this knowledge on to her visually impaired students, offering them more career options for the future.

In the future, Nhi hopes to expand her support beyond her hometown. She aims to help the visually impaired community in other provinces across Vietnam. She wishes that her knowledge and efforts can create opportunities for many more visually impaired people to study, work, and lead more independent lives.

OUR STUDENT'S STORY

Bui Van Huy, 34 years old, was born with low vision due to optic atrophy. Though he can still see, his eyesight is very weak and unstable, only about 1/10 of normal vision. After middle school, he continued his education at Thai Binh Provincial College of Culture and Arts, studying both general subjects and artistic talents like the organ. However, after some time, he realized that a career in art wasn't for him. He decided to leave college to find a new path that was more practical and suited his health and abilities.

In 2012, Huy entered the massage field. Just two months after starting as an employee, he decided to buy an existing massage business with staff in Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi. He has successfully managed and operated the business ever since. Currently, his massage center has four employees, and he covers their food and accommodation costs. For 13 years, Huy has worked both as the owner of his business and as an employee elsewhere to gain more experience. As a result, his skills are now strong, and customers trust him. At a recent massage training course, he was both a student and an assistant instructor for other trainees.

Huy's wife has full vision and works as a lecturer at the University of Public Health. Her companionship, sharing, and support are a great pillar for him, helping him confidently develop his business and trust his choices.

Huy considers himself eager to learn. He shared that he actively registers for any training courses related to massage or rehabilitation. That's why he joined our advanced therapeutic massage training course—not just to improve his knowledge but also to connect and learn from others in the profession. For him, learning is the best way to keep up with changes in the industry and helps him work more efficiently and sustainably.

For his future plans, Huy intends to expand his business, build new facilities, and hire more staff. He hopes to not only improve service quality but also create more jobs for other visually impaired people, helping them find employment and live independently.

A Heartfelt Day at Omamori Spa Old Quarter with a Lovely Couple from Belgium

Today at Omamori Spa Old Quarter – 48 Ngo Huyen, we had the joy and honor of welcoming a truly sweet and inspiring couple from Belgium. Young, kind-hearted, and full of curiosity, they chose Vietnam — and Omamori Spa — as the place to not only explore, but to learn and connect through healing.

Together, they joined our Head–Neck–Shoulder Therapy Course, designed to help people care for themselves and their loved ones through gentle, effective, and deeply relaxing techniques. With care and focus, they embraced every movement, every breath, and every intention behind our therapeutic approach — guided by the Omamori principle: Soft – Deep – Slow – Gentle.

What touched us most was seeing how beautifully they supported each other throughout the session — taking turns as giver and receiver, learning not just with their hands, but with their hearts. It was more than just a class; it was a quiet, powerful act of love.

By the end of the course, they had completed all techniques with excellence — and left behind warm smiles, kind words, and unforgettable memories for our teachers and therapists.

Thank you both, from the bottom of our hearts, for letting us be a small part of your journey. We wish you health, joy, and many moments of healing — for each other, and for those you care about.

With love from all of us at Omamori Spa.
Where learning to heal... is a way of loving.

West Lake in Hanoi is many things to many people: a tranquil escape, a historical canvas, a lover's stroll. At Omamori Spa West Lake, in the hushed embrace of summer, it is first and foremost the home of the lotus. These aren't just flowers; they are the soul of the lake, emerging from the muddy depths with an ethereal grace that never ceases to captivate.

🌍💬 Inspiring English Classes at Omamori Spa! 💬🌍

This week, Omamori Spa is delighted to welcome Ian (17 years old) and Kim (Ian’s mother) from Canada joining the Global Volunteers program to teach English at our Old Town branch. They brought with them enthusiasm, bright smiles, and open hearts to join our visually impaired therapists and the receptionists in special English classes.

These are not just regular language lessons — they are moments of connection, empathy, and mutual growth, where language becomes a bridge, not a barrier.

💪 With the therapists’ strong commitment to learning and the volunteers’ wholehearted support, every class is a step forward toward confidence and international integration.

Thank you for bringing a meaningful summer and inspiring energy to every heart at Omamori! ❤️

Our Story

Omamori Spa is a chain of spa managed by Blind-Link, the first and pioneering social enterprise in this field in Vietnam. Blind-Link is aiming to provide employment, support and training opportunities in the area of wellness to Vietnamese blind and visually impaired people. Blind-Link chooses to attach the issues by providing the blind with professional and personal development training, creating high value-added jobs via Omamori Spa chain, and transforming the image of blind massage. The business concept of Omamori Spa is unique because of the professional staff employed, the affordable prices for high quality services offered, the no-tip-policy, the relaxing atmosphere in the Spa facilities and most importantly because of the social support provided to the blind and visually impaired.

In Hanoi, since a larger space is needed for training programs, we moved from the initial location in Huynh Thuc Khang Street to the current headquarter, a high-end & 23 massage-bed spa, at 52A Hang Bun, nearby the West lake, Ba Dinh district since April 12th, 2017.

We are pleased to announce the opening of a second location in Old Quarter, Hanoi as of December 1, 2018. This will provide convenient access from the heart of Old Quarter, Hanoi. The second Omamori Spa is situated just two blocks from the west side of Hoan Kiem lake, and two blocks from the beautiful St. Joseph's cathedral.

The third high-end & large-size location at the heart of the new urbanization area of Hanoi, Omamori Spa No.37 Lane 165 Thái Hà Str., Đong Đa district had grand opening on June 15, 2019.
