Whenever I am stressed I can feel it in my jaw. It's my really clear sign that I need to RESET.

And let's face it...moving myself and my life across the globe is gonna be stressful 😅

Like most women I get so used to being stressed that I forget to notice thw signs and just 'crack on' BUT sometimes my body screams louder and my jaw gets so so tense that I can't get it to relax at all! (I'm working on trying to spot the signs earlier but some days are better than others 😌)

My intention for a while now has been to develop more self compassion, to notice when I'm holding tension in my body and to take action to ease it. This lovely, soothing self compassionate exercise works a treat.

-I place my hands gently over my jaw and I breathe; deeply and slowly, breathing out the tension and breathing in soothing gentle reassurance to myself.....

-I imagine I am sending beams of love to the tension and I reassure myself that I love and care for myself, that I am safe and that whatever is causing me tension is either
a) a great sign I'm out of comfort zone and that all is well, or
b) something that does not serve me and I set the intention to protect myself from it.

It works every time. It shows me that I care for me, that I'm important to myself and that I am accountable and trustworthy. That's really all that any of us ever need 💛

As women we are conditioned to put everyone else's needs/wants/values before our own, we are the earth's nurturers and carers and our worth is entwined within being this way.

Of course it's important to love, care and value others but it must be balanced with that same love, care and value for ourselves.

Without this balance we easily become drained, stressed and overwhelmed, leading to many other vibrationally negative ways of being.

Turning our attention to ourselves and checking in and caring for our own selves is an incredibly compassionate and powerful action.

These are questions really do help that process.

This quote warmed my heart ❤ and I am thrilled to be in a place in my life where this is my truth.

I have walked the journey and invested in myself and so now....I know, love, understand, care for and take responsibility for myself every day. And as a result I really like myself and my life (even on crappy days 😌).

How about you? How's your relationship with you? Do you know yourself? Do you know your needs, values and wants? Are you able to be with yourself in all the ways you show up? Do you like yourself and the life you've created?

Big questions I know, but, so deeply important 💜

We are all on this journey and we are all at different stages with it. The key is to find acceptance with where you're currently at (even and especially if it's not where you want to be) whilst reminding yourself that this isn't the final destination. In this way you find your way back to you 🥰

I am RESETTING!

I'm packing up my life and heading across the globe to start a new chapter that I've manifested for myself. I'm throwing my cards to the sun and I know for sure they'll land where I choose.

Me too!
Or at least I used to....ALL THE TIME.

I found that giving myself a really hard time for my mistakes was making things so much worse!! I'd spend ages trying to 'repair the damage' and I doing that I was prolonging the suffering of it.

How is your relationship with yourself?

Do you understand your own thoughts, feelings and emotions or do you find them too overwhelming and confusing? Do you find yourself using distraction as a way of handling your more intense emotions?

If so then I can totally resonate! I was the queen of distraction....some days all I wanted to do was numb out those feelings with food, wine and TV!

Recognizing your current patterns without judgement and criticism but with love and acceptance is a really courageous step. It's the first step towards shifting into a healthier way of being.

Do you find yourself attacking yourself (or others) when you perceive wrong doing?

For women since we've been conditioned to 'be nice' we often turn our FIGHT responses inward, blaming, naming and shaming ourselves in a twisted attempt to make things right again.

Rather than fuelling the inner critic see if you can recognise that this FIGHT response is a sign your system is flooded by stress hormones. Can you go easy on yourself and try not to judge yourself too harshly?

Recognizing your current patterns without judgement and criticism but with love and acceptance is a really courageous step.

Do you find yourself going over and over stuff in your head? I'm guessing so, ruminating is incredibly common and something that most of us struggle with. It's also a sign your system is flooded by stress hormones so go easy on yourself and try not to judge yourself too harshly!

Time and time again when I'm working with clients I come across the same theme. It's a theme that once resonated with me and so I know it well 👀

I'd go so far as wondering if it's something that most/all women struggle with?!

It goes something like this. We suffer as a result of 'something triggering' and then more often than not we berate and judge of ourselves for having the thoughts/feelings/actions we have whilst we are suffering 🤯

It's a double whammy of suffering!

Do you recognise the pattern in yourself?

I definitely did!

Seeing these patterns is what sent me on an 18 month exploration of all things stress and self compassion. I wanted to understand what was going on and how the cycle could be broken 🤓

This never ending cycle is indicative that our system is not only under stress but that it is stuck in a stress loop. In order to think/feel and behave rationally and logically we need to find ways to break out of the stress loop.

It is time for us all to step up and shine 🌞

Getting comfortable with change is really about mindset.

It's about recognizing that life is always alive with possibility and opportunity and that it can be more easily felt when we keep expecting and looking for the growth and change around us.

It doesn't always need to involve huge significant life shifts/goals and plans. It can also be simply about how we approach each and every day.

It can be looking for simple opportunities every day to spice things up and keep things fresh and rewarding.

If you're anything like me then you want to be at your end goal already!! Impatience seems to be something most of us struggle with, a consequence of our fast paced lifestyle maybe?!

It took me years to finally make peace with the reality that change is a process that takes whatever time it takes and that it's often not as fast or as linear as you'd hope.

Let me share a little of my story with you...

I've been overweight for decades and I spent most of that time in the cycle of aiming to lose 3lbs per week! I swung between the extremes of water fasts (I did 10 days at one point) and then comforting eating crap because I felt so demotivated. The obvious result?....I remained overweight and stuck in the cycle 🤷

I became obsessed with the psychology of the change process and of stress cycles. Everything I've shared with you in this 4 part series is what I've used myself and it WORKS!

I've really easily and slowly been able to release 15kg of weight so far....no more extreme measures just simple, kind, easy to implement small changes every day. With actually less focus on my physical weight more on my emotional weight.

Celebrating the small wins is critical for success, at first celebrating that I'd lost 1lb felt kind of pointless, until I found a way to reframe it to this:

"this is great I am 1lb closer to where I want to be (I'm gonna feel and look great in those jeans), and I've really taken care of myself this week. That 1lb weight loss represents the shift in how I've succeeded in caring for me, feeding me well, implementing boundaries, managing stress and overwhelm, moving my body, sleeping well....that is the greatest win and that is a beautiful celebration"

Loving and caring for yourself feels amazing 🥰

Two key pieces of learning for me were to:

1 -Stay in the step you're in so you don't become overwhelmed by the process. One small step at a time.

AND

2- Learn to recognise when you're in a stressed state and practice easing that stress first. RESET your system.

FACT 1:
Doing life whilst handling/struggling with stress is extra exhausting.

FACT 2:
We do have within us the power to EASE the stress thus making 'doing life' easier.

FACT 3:
Finding the energy to deal with the stress SEEMS like too much work, when you are already at your limit.

The truth is by taking the time and setting the intention to PAUSE and EASE the stress responses first makes 'doing life' way easier and more enjoyable. It's so worth the shift in strategy.

It reminds me of this quote:

"If I had an hour to chop down a tree, I would spend the first 45 minutes sharpening my axe" (Abraham Lincoln)

It's not always easy to take an honest look at ourselves, it's hard seeing our flaws, but know this...

1. We are all flawed and imperfect 🤩

2. Seeing and accepting yours is the only way to decide if you want to make change and grow 👀

The key to looking at yourself is in trying to do it as someone who loved you would 🥰

This 'other' person would find it easy to accept you as you are without judging you for being imperfect, they would feel understanding and kindness towards you as you pushed yourself to grow and change.

Be proud of yourself for your courage to look and go easy on yourself as you see 💜

Biochemically speaking both are stress states resulting from the same stress pathways...the only difference is how we 'label' the experience we're having! 🤯

So, next time your anxious about doing something, try this:

❤ PAUSE for a moment and recognise that this is a natural stress response provoked by entering the unknown/imagined

🧡 CONSIDER the fact that you care so much because this is important to you and that is great

💚 RELABEL the feeling so that you can use it as fuel to get to where you want to go

Being out of our comfort zone feels really bloody uncomfortable!

I've been sat here for hours feeling so tense and anxious because I'm about to do something I've never done before (make a reel 🤣) and my mind is pulling ALL its tricks out the bag to get me to stop and move back to safety.

I'm so uncomfortable that even my tongue is tense!! 😛

What about you? What's making you uncomfortable right now? Are you managing to recognize that the discomfort is your friend? 🤯

What I keep reminding myself of is this:

*These feelings are a natural response to being out of my comfort zone and that they WILL ease once I'm into the learning zone (and I've worked out how all this works!!)

*These feelings are a sign I'm on my way to where I want to be (Yay!! 😍)

*That there can be no change without this process and I'm so grateful for myself for being willing to experience the process 🥰
