Thank you CECES 香港幼兒教育及服務聯會(幼聯)for inviting me to speak on how youth su***de prevention is everyone’s business.
The key messages are:
✋The statistics are horrifying: 1 in 20 people will contemplate su***de in their lifetime.
✋That’s at least ONE student per classroom.
✋Most likely at least one per office.
✋And at least one in your friendship group or extended family.
Let that sink in. These are not just statistic, each number represents a young precious life.
That number rises by a factor of 14 for those who are neuro-diverse.
Su***de remains the biggest killer of the elderly, and of middle-aged men.
😱Most shocking of all, it’s the second biggest killer of children. Truly heartbreaking 💔 😨
If you think youth suicude prevention is not your responsibility, think again.

🌟 Reflecting on a Transformative Day at the Church Mental Health Summit 2024🌟
As I look back on my experience at this year’s Church Mental Health Summit, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, particularly to Christina Tang, the founder of Restore, who graciously invited me to speak. Your vision and dedication to mental health within our church communities are truly inspiring, Christina. Thank you for trusting me with this opportunity to share and engage in such an important conversation.
Speaking to the diverse church communities across Hong Kong about how we can collectively build a su***de-safer environment is not just a professional engagement for me; it is a deeply personal mission.
As a su***de intervention trainer and mental health educator, in every public speaking opportunity, my aim is to ignite change and inspire action.
The summit was a significant breakthrough—a moment where we began to change the narrative and start the conversations we so desperately need.
Reflecting on our time together, several key thoughts resonate deeply:
👉Unity in Purpose: It was heartwarming to see so many churches gather with a shared vision. Together, we can create a supportive community that fosters understanding and compassion.
👉Normalizing the Conversation: By discussing su***de openly, we are taking crucial steps to dismantle stigma. Each dialogue we engage in brings us closer to healing. How can we continue this vital conversation in our communities?
👉Empowerment through Knowledge: I emphasized that you don’t need to be a trained professional to make a difference. Each of us has the power to reach out and support someone who may be struggling.
What resources can we provide to ensure everyone feels equipped to intervene?
As we move forward, I am filled with hope about the direction we are heading. We are beginning to change the narrative around mental health within our churches, and that’s a powerful testament to our collective commitment.
“One life lost is one too many”
Su***de prevention is a shared responsibility, and together, we can create a culture of support and understanding.
What will you do to continue this conversation in your community?
Let’s embrace this opportunity for change and work together to safeguard those around us.
Thank you once again, Christina, for your unwavering dedication and for including me in this crucial dialogue.
Together, we can make a lasting impact.

🌍✨ On World Mental Health Day 2024, I’m reminded that our commitment to mental health can’t be confined to just one day—it must be a priority we uphold all year round. As a youth mental health educator and LivingWorks ASIST Trainer, I dedicate my work to equipping people who work with young people with the tools they need to help them navigate their mental health challenges while also supporting their families and communities in understanding these issues.
This week, I took the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of youth su***de safety. Why is continuous learning so crucial in this field? Because every piece of evidence-based knowledge enhances my ability to serve my community effectively. I am driven by the belief that breaking the stigma surrounding mental health is essential and that one life lost is one too many.
As a mother, I not only witness the unique challenges faced by Gen Z but also feel a personal responsibility to advocate for their mental well-being. My dual role as an educator and a mom fuels my commitment to continuous learning and upskilling. I strive to stay informed about the latest strategies and interventions, ensuring I can provide the best support possible.
So, How can we create environments—both at work and in our communities—that support mental health and encourage ongoing conversations and proactive measures? Let’s commit to making mental health a year-round priority for ourselves, our children, and future generations. Together, we can make a lasting impact. 💚

🌟 The Importance of Kindness, Support, and Connection in Entrepreneurship 🌟
This morning, I found myself enveloped in a wave of warmth as I listened to a heartfelt message and voice note from Andréa Watts, a dear friend and fellow coach. Her words arrived like a much-needed ray of sunshine on a gloomy day. As I navigate the challenging landscape of youth mental health and su***de prevention, I’ve been feeling particularly drained and isolated.
Isn’t it remarkable how something as simple as a voice message or a few kind words can transform our spirits? In a world that often feels harsh and disconnected, the importance of extending kindness to one another cannot be overstated. Knowing someone cares can be a soothing balm for the soul in those moments of doubt.
Andréa reminded me that our efforts truly matter, even though we may not always see immediate results. Her reassurance was a gentle reminder that we are part of a larger community woven together by shared struggles and triumphs. This connection is vital. It’s a reminder that we are not alone; we thrive not just on our own hard work but also on the support and encouragement we offer one another.
As we pour ourselves into our work, it’s equally crucial to care for our own mental health and well-being. We must remember to give ourselves the same compassion we so readily extend to others. In doing so, we strengthen our connections, creating a network of support that uplifts us all.
I am incredibly grateful for the bond I share with Andréa, one built on mutual care and Christian faith as we navigate this challenging path together. We find the strength to continue our journeys through friendships as such.
To all the amazing coaches, caregivers, and advocates out there, let’s keep lifting each other up. How can our connections deepen the impact of our kindness? Our voices are powerful; every small act of kindness creates ripples of change.
Together, we can illuminate the darkness and foster a community rooted in support and compassion. Let’s keep shining our lights brightly and nurturing the connections that empower us all! 💪✨

🌟 Thank You, CECES! 🌟
I am thrilled to express my deepest gratitude to CECES 香港幼兒教育及服務聯會(幼聯) for the incredible opportunity to speak at the Merry Go fundraising event, especially during this pivotal moment with the launch of the "Nurture Our Future" initiative. This event is crucial, aligning perfectly with the recent passing of the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse bill in Hong Kong.
The Birth of Nurture Our Future:
A Timely Initiative: The establishment of "Nurture Our Future" is a significant step towards addressing the urgent need for awareness and action regarding child abuse, bullying, and youth su***de.
Legislative Support: With the new mandatory reporting law, we all have an increased responsibility to recognize and report signs of abuse, creating a safer environment for our youth.
The Link Between Child Abuse, Bullying, and Su***de:
Research Findings: Studies show that children who experience abuse or bullying are at a significantly higher risk for mental health issues, including depression and suicidal thoughts.
Interconnected Issues: The cycle of abuse and bullying can lead to feelings of hopelessness and isolation, which are key risk factors for youth su***de. Addressing these issues holistically is essential for effective prevention.
Key Points from My Talk:
Youth Su***de is Preventable: With the right community support and intervention, many suicidal crises can be averted.
Empathetic Listening: Highlighted the importance of building genuine connections with our youth by listening with empathy and compassion. Research shows that feeling understood can significantly reduce feelings of isolation.
Community Responsibility: Discussed how everyone—parents, educators, and community members—has a role to play in creating a safe and supportive environment for our youth.
Open Conversations: Stressed the need for open dialogues about mental health and su***de, breaking the stigma that often surrounds these topics.
I am profoundly grateful to be part of this crucial movement alongside CECES. Together, we can foster a culture of awareness and compassion that truly nurtures our future generations. Thank you, CECES, for your relentless dedication to this cause and for allowing me to contribute to such an important mission!
Let’s continue to work together to safeguard our youth and ensure they thrive! 💖

🌟 Building a Su***de-Safer Community: Reflections on Our Empower Parents Lunch and Learn 🌟
I recently had the privilege of facilitating a Lunch and Learn workshop at RPC focused on youth mental health and su***de prevention. The turnout was simply amazing—25 dedicated employees, including lawyers and administrators, some parents and some not, all eager to engage in this crucial conversation. Their commitment to learning about youth mental health speaks volumes about their desire to make a difference and be the change we so desperately need in our communities.
What truly stood out was the active participation from attendees. They engaged deeply in activities designed to explore their knowledge of mental health and su***de, discussed the stigma surrounding these topics, and asked insightful questions about risk factors and warning signs. This level of engagement demonstrated their seriousness about helping those around them and their commitment to learning how to support our youth.
The key messages shared in the workshop included:
1️⃣ Mental health and su***de are community health issues—everyone has a role to play. You don’t need to be a helping professional to save lives.
2️⃣ One life lost to su***de is one too many. Each statistic represents a young life, and together, we can build a su***de-safer community. It takes a village to raise a child so does saving lives.
3️⃣ Young people are crying out for help. They need their voices heard, not necessarily solutions. Listening with empathy and intent can make a significant difference.
💪I left the workshop feeling inspired and motivated. It takes leaders and caring community members to engage in these importantconversations and learn how to save lives.
My journey in breaking the silence surrounding youth mental health and su***de has been challenging, but witnessing the impact of our efforts has made it all worthwhile.
💬 Call to Action: Will you join me and RPC in building a su***de-safer community? Let's host your next Lunch and Learn workshop together. Get in touch!

I am the mother of Alex, Claire and Xavier. I am a Mental Health & Wellness Coach.
Born and raised in a traditional Chinese family in Hong Kong, expressing one’s emotion wasn’t something that I was taught to do or given permission to do. It was only when I went to boarding school in the U.K. and then went on to university in the States that I realized mental health is just as important if not more than physical health.
Mental Health and Wellness are to have the ability to recognize one’s emotion and able to express them in the right way. The alarming rise of youth falling into depression, anxiety and su***de in recent years should be enough for parents, teachers, schools and the community to take proactive actions toward educating, bringing awareness to the youth community.
Our children should NOT have to feel that they need permission to feel, they should NOT have to deal with mental illness on their own, they should NOT have to blame themselves for their emotions.
It is only to be not okay - that’s the message that we as parents, educators and caretakers need to empower our children.
