Born only days apart yet from two very different worldsโ€”one shaped by Hollywood film sets and the other by village weaving circlesโ€”Rosie Boylan, an Australian hat maker and Janet Sine, a Santo community leader came together through the Vanuatu Skills Partnership to establish a thriving social enterprise. This is their story.

This is First Nations diplomacy in action!

These incredible women weavers from Vanuatu travelled to share culture and knowledge with Yolล‹u weavers in East Arnhem Land.

They exchanged stories and culture while pandanus weaving.

These leaders visited Arnhem Land and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair. Yolล‹u women will travel to Vanuatu to take part in Vanuatu Made events, deepening these ties even further.

This program demonstrates the power of culture to connect communities through diplomacy.

Our team warmly congratulates Vila Central Hospital (VCH) on its 50th Anniversary! ๐ŸŽŠ

Tankiu tumas to all VCH staff for your dedication in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our people over the years.๐Ÿ™

As we join this milestone celebration, we are also proud of our contribution in strengthening the Vanuatu College of Nursing Education.

Through this support, more ni-Vanuatu nurses will be upskilled, improving the delivery of inclusive quality health care services across the country.

Australia and Vanuatuโ€™s cultural connections were strongly evident on the ground in Tanna over the past two weeks, with the National Arts and Culture Festival, the launch of two newly built classrooms, the graduation of 49 Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) technicians, the opening of a new fencing at the Nikoletan Council of Chiefs compound, and the united efforts in disability inclusion and decentralisation.

The next stage of our exciting Vanuatu-Australia indigenous creative industries exchange has got off to an excellent start with the Sanma Creative Hub producers arriving this week at the Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts Centre, Arnhem Land, to share artistic and production techniques with the Yolngu weavers. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ

Accompanied by our industry coach, Rosie Boylan, the group has already embarked upon a collaborative mat weaving project, and the Yolngu weavers have been introduced to the bright pandanus Teri dyes now used by Vanuatu's weavers, through our support. ๐Ÿค

We can't wait to see the artistry that emerges by the end of this stay next week - a powerful representation of the shared cultural values that are so important to the Vanuatu Australia partnership ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

"We are proud of our partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vanuatu, working through provincial governmentsโ€”especially the Tafea Provincial Governmentโ€”for their commitment to supporting and believing in local talents like Mary.

Together, we continue to challenge discriminatory norms and create opportunities that empower equal opportunities for men and women to thrive and lead in their communities." ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re proud of our long-standing partnership with the Sanma Provincial Government Council through the Sanma Skills Centre.

Great to see this highlighted in a recent VBTC story featuring the construction of the South East Area Council Building on Santo. Part of the project is also the upskilling of 30 trainees, including 3 women and 1 person with a disability, gaining practical skills through the Vanuatu Institute of Technology- Skills That Matter. These trainees will become vital human resources to support future infrastructure needs at the area council level ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ™Œ
