🚨🗝️ A small injury and or a wound can happen very quickly! Remember that small injuries can become large and treating them must be systematic in order to avoid any complications. Injuring oneself must rhyme with

CLEAN, TREAT AND PROTECT.

🧼 CLEAN:

Always remember to wash your hands well before taking care of your injury. Water and soap are your first allies, especially to remove from the wound all foreign bodies that may be there (gravel, earth, etc.). Once your wound has been cleaned, you can use an antiseptic solution to prevent bacterial proliferation: it is disinfection.

Chlorhexidine is particularly indicated because it does not sting.

🎯 TREAT:

💊 Drug treatment (antibiotic for example) may SOMETIMES be necessary in some cases, especially if the injury is deep, or if you have doubts about the hygiene of the surface on which you have injured yourself.

⚠️ But antibiotics are not always necessary!! It’s always better to ask the opinion of a professional. Don’t hesitate to contact me for advice.

⚜️ In order to prevent complications, monitor for potential signs of infection on a daily basis:

● Redness, swelling around the wound

● Pain and sensitivity in the wound

● Discharge of pus

🩹 PROTECTION :

In order to protect the wound as best as possible and avoid complications, you can cover the wound with a dressing of suitable size and shape, especially when you are outside.

🚫🌊 And as said in my previous post: AVOID SEA WATER!

⚠️🗣️ You’ve certainly heard: "Go swimming in the sea, sea water heals wounds"

But...

🚨 IT'S A MYTH!!

👉🏽 In this post, I explain EVERYTHING and give you some advice:

🌊 Sea water, rich in salt, tends to irritate... And has no healing or even sterilizing virtue. Seawater will slow healing, and can even infect the wound. To help a wound heal, it is instead necessary to rinse it well with water...

‼️ ATTENTION, not just any water...:

🦠 In reality, impurities in coastal water and stagnant waters can contain large amounts of microbes. The latter proliferate freely because of the high temperatures of the water.

👍🏽 It’s more judicious to use physiological serum.

💊 So it is true that physiological serum has the same salt concentration as sea water BUT physiological serum for medical use has a quality that seawater does not have: It’s STERILE.

🧂 Salt tends to remove and dehydrate bacteria and dead cells, facilitating cleaning. On the other hand, it doesn’t disinfect. Seawater contains many microorganisms that can contaminate wounds.

⚜️ In conclusion, avoid sea water when you have a wound likely to become infected or cover it with a waterproof dressing.

💥🔑 Injuring yourself must rhyme with CLEANING, TREATING AND PROTECTING.

👩🏼‍⚕️ Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.

🚨‼️ Contrary to popular belief, leaving an open wound exposed does not speed up the healing process. In fact, an open and untreated wound can be more painful, and take longer to heal.

🦠 Open wounds leave the tissue of your body exposed to the elements. Accidental contact, dust and other airborne irritants can easily infect the wound, as can bacterial colonies that are already present on other parts of your skin.

⚠️ BUT, to promote healing, it is not always necessary to cover the wounds... Each wound has different characteristics giving rise to specific management.

👩🏼‍⚕️ Don’t hesitate, ask for the opinion of a professional. Your health is our duty!

● Who I am ?
💁🏼‍♀️My name is Eugenie and I am a French nurse.

● My professional career:

✈️ After practicing in hospital in various services (including medicine and palliative care) I decided to leave the Metropolis and settle in New Caledonia.

🇳🇨 Arriving there, I quickly flew to the Loyalty Islands. It was in Ouvéa and then in Lifou that I was able to practice in a dispensary and thus develop my skills during different Emergencies. For 1 year, I had the chance to discover and integrate Kanak’s culture, customs but also to learn more about the different diseases in tropical areas.

🇻🇺 It’s now here, in Vanuatu, that life led me to continue my discovery of the Pacific.

● My role as a nurse:

👩🏼‍⚕️ To differentiate with the doctor, my role is not to make diagnoses but to carry out care necessary to maintain your health: monitoring your blood pressure, help in taking and understanding your medications, carrying out your vaccines or any other injection, blood test, making bandage (post surgery, burn, boil, removal of stitches or any other wounds), help in the management of the end of life at home. I also take care of elderly people to accompany them home.

🏥 I work in collaboration with several doctors on Efate to cover all your needs. All the care I carry out can be practical at home, in VPH (+678 22255) or in Medical Centre (+678 22826)

🍀 A strong commitment to improving the quality of patient care at home.
