Understanding Gynaecological Cancer
Gynaecological cancers affect a woman's reproductive organs, including the cervix, ovaries, uterus, va**na, and v***a. Early detection is key to successful treatment. Here’s what you need to know:
Types of Gynaecological Cancers:
• Cervical Cancer: Starts in the cervix (the lower part of the uterus). Often caused by HPV. Regular Pap smears and the HPV vaccine can prevent it.
• Ovarian Cancer: Develops in the ovaries, which produce eggs. It’s hard to detect early, and family history increases the risk.
• Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer: Occurs in the lining of the uterus. Hormonal imbalances, like using estrogen without progesterone, can increase risk.
• Vaginal Cancer: Rare cancer that starts in the va**na. It’s often linked to HPV infection.
• Vulvar Cancer: Affects the outer part of the female ge****ls. HPV infection and age are common risk factors.
What Causes Gynaecological Cancer?
• HPV Infection: HPV causes six types of cancer: cervical, va**nal, v***ar, a**l, throat (oropharyngeal), and pe**le. Vaccination can protect against HPV-related cancers.
• Age: Risk increases as you get older.
• Family History: Having relatives with ovarian or breast cancer increases your risk.
• Lifestyle: Smoking and poor diet can raise cancer risk.
• Hormones: Hormone replacement therapy and some birth control methods can affect your risk.
How to Protect Yourself:
• Get regular check-ups and Pap smears.
• Get the HPV vaccine.
• Know your family history and discuss it with your doctor.
