we were able to fit this gentleman a few months after amputation and it’s evident in how quickly he was able to walk. This was just minutes after his first steps! His daughter is helping with Epenesa Young doing her excellent coaching!

Pull up to this gentleman’s house on a rainy day in Savaii. We had casted him last week for a below knee prosthesis and fit him today! He started out between two elders and was walking tenitative .
Then he did something remarkable. He stood with all his weight on the prosthetic and balanced on it! Then proceeded to walk confidently with no assistance except crutches

Sometimes I worry when we have not been able to get back to someone. But Savaiian ingenuity is a real thing. When we first fit her and gave her exercises and stretches because she was weak and contracted she worked hard.
We returned to find this spunky lady using the thing that used to be her prison as a way to escape and become more independent!!!!

This is what I love to see! Poese is the first person I fit with a prostheses in Savaii. It took him almost three months to get this strong but I love seeing empty beds and wheelchairs! Look how fast he is walking down the road. He is ale to have the dignity of taking himself to the bathroom or shower on his own

Shout out to younger elders and sister missionaries that heard about the rocky path that one of my patients was having difficulty maneuvering from his Fale to his bathroom they stepped in and carved out a path

Sometimes we get busy and dont get back to see someone! This lady was on of those but come to find out she was doing quite well given that she has pain in her good knee

This lady is in her 70’s and had a very short above knee amputation. I sometimes wonder if a person will benefit or even try when they find out how much work it takes to learn to walk again. I was so pleasantly surprised to find her walking by herself a week after I fit her !!!!

This guy is a rock 💫 when it comes to walking on a prosthetic! He snaps the prosthesis straight and then puts his weight on it immediately! That is trust. The outside picture were a week later
