MAP Strength

MAP Strength Personal Trainer and S&C Coach for all levels and all abilities.

Although I had been training on and off for 15 years or more, I never really stuck to plan and just seemed to chop and change, as many of us do, using free available workouts, online plans and effectively wandering
around the gym space without any real changes or gains. I then employed the services of my first PT and within 12 weeks noticed a huge difference in my physique, strength and overall fi

tness and have for the past 10 years never looked back. Having trained for Spartan and Bear Grylls races
I turned my attention to strongman in 2018 and have worked with England’s Strongest Man and
World Strongest Man competitor Paul Smith ever since, unfortunately I tore my meniscus in November 2020,
so my dreams of competing are currently on the back burner. I have trained friends and family for years and following suggestions in early 2021 that I should do this for a living
I took the plunge and got qualified. Alongside this I undertook Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training as I believe that the gym space can be quite intimidating for some, and I want to help those with aspirations and dreams of getting fitter and making a change but are hindered by mental health.

Needed a little reminder of how far I have come today due to the bicep injury starting to get me down. Its restricted my training for around 3 months, working around it, working with it, but still having to play it safe at times. Hopefully all will be fixed over the next 4 weeks and I can push the intensity up again and get to the level I want.

New Year, New Me and then the gyms fall silent once again with many paying for a membership for the next 6 months with the intention of going but only making it now and again.

Too tired.
Too busy.
Cant be arsed.
I will start Monday.

You need to be disciplined, you need to get off your arse and go, something is better than nothing and often once you have made the effort to get changed, enter the gym and start to warm up you smash the crap out of the session.

You then go home feeling accomplished, knowing it was the last thing you wanted to do. . . but you did it.

I would argue this feeling is better than a PB.

A relatively new Christmas tradition and one I hope continues. 20 year old me would have thought gym on Christmas Day was pure madness, but with this crew it’s just the perfect start to the celebrations.

If your coach is not making the process work for you then question them, not everyone is the same and varied approaches are often needed.

This does not only include the exercises per session or the nutrition, but should also include how this all fits into your life.

If your stressed just getting to the gym because of a busy lifestyle then the gym will be the first thing to take a hit.

Progress can be made with as little as two sessions a week if you control all the elements externally such as your nutrition . . . and of course you will need a healthy dose of discipline to stay on track . . . keep going like this and you will notice a difference, it just may take a little longer than planned . . . but progress is progress right?

Don't fall into the cookie cutter solutions offered by many trainers and make sure its working for you . . . after all you are the client!

What a year!!!

We have had our ups and downs with the tide seemingly against us on more than one occasion, but as a team we have persevered and put all the negatives behind us.

We have lifted the World Adaptive Championship Trophy and are Number 1 in the World!!

Knowing that this was the strongest field to ever come together for this event makes it even sweeter, beating 6 of the Worlds Strongest Adaptive Athletes on home soil even more so.

It’s now time to take a break and breathe it all in before we come back with all guns blazing next season to take even more titles and a few World Records.

Good luck to this man competing in the Adaptive World Championship hosted by at this weekends in Birmingham.

Its been a tough year on and off the competition floor, but this guy has never given up, not once with all the s**t going on did he come to me and say 'Mate I just cant' . . instead he sucked it up and carried on.

Everything is in place and all the training has been done, but competitions are not won or lost in the gym . . its time to go show the World what you are capable of mate, both physically and mentally.

This will be the first event I have not supported (other than the logo design work last year etc) since i started to work with and the legends that are & and I have to say I know im going to miss one hell of a show.

I had to leave due to various other commitments but the core essence of what Tye and Bex are all about and the World of Adaptive / Disabled strongman will stay with me forever.

The ability to get up and keep going, the ability to stick two fingers up to adversity and the mental strength to push on even though you are in pain and probably will be for the next week is what makes these athletes, in my book, the best in the World.

No bitching, no moaning, just swathes of grit and determination in each and every event pushing towards to a title . . . and tomorrow its the start of a big one.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the spectacle that is about to unfold at at the NEC in Birmingham this weekend, with Tye and Bex bringing together events that have previously been reserved for the able bodied, it certainly will be one not to miss!!!

Good luck to one and all, athlete's, floor managers, loaders, referees and organisers!

Two way communication between client and coach is imperative and it has to be honest. Its the only real way for you to progress as it allows small adjustments (or major) to make sure you are getting the best from each and every session.

You are the client and you pay for a service and should expect that your coach is working with you throughout.

Just being fed a program and charged for it is not personal training . . the key is in the name . . personal . . so if you find yourself paying for a coach / pt and your not getting feedback, adjustments, guidance or advice . . then change your coach / pt.

A lot of my posts are from competitive athletes but that does not mean its all I do.

I have never really been one to share progress pics and development from my clients, and that may be detrimental to my business, but thats one of the MAP Strength mantras, in that I will not use you as a marketing tool. However my athlete crew are always posting progress and thats what my social feed sees. I don't have an issue with that at all, but to the outside it would appear thats all I do.

As i write this I have clients all over the UK ranging from a lady that wants to up her fitness levels to enjoy country walks and events, a client that wants to improve his strength and endurance for re-enactment sword fighting, a client that is planning on running The Great North Run, and an events manager that wants to set up large shows, bars and staging without being exhausted all the time.

Yes there is also a few amateur strongmen and powerlifters.

You then have me of course, currently trying to build more tissue in the hope I can hit the stage at the end of next year, a two year plan that I hope comes together.

So you see its not just strongmen that I train!

If your looking to up your game then get in touch, no matter what the goal we can chat it through and see if I can help.

The same question all the time 'So how does your diet work then' or 'what diet are you on' . . . Its not a fu% diet . . Its just balanced amounts, ensuring my body gets what it needs in line with my training / output. I get to eat virtually whatever I want just as long as it fits within my daily requirements.

These requirement's change in line with my training, but its not difficult, its sustainable and above all else it works.

Stop looking at all these fad diets, sliming pills and injections and take responsibility for what you eat and you to will see the difference.

I do genuinely celebrate every achievement as im proud of what my clients do, its hard to get up and go to the gym, its hard to have the discipline and its hard to change your life.

I may support you throughout your journey, but I cant be there 24/7, so i know the dedication it takes to crawl out from under a warm duvet, get your gym kit on and walk out into the cold and head to the gym.

If your looking for next level support in your fitness journey then drop me a DM or contact me via my website.

Consultation is free, and you can start the ball rolling by dropping me a DM.

I take a zero bulls**t approach to my coaching, and if I don't think we will be a good fit then I will point you in the direction of one of my colleagues . . . . at the end of the day it is about you after all.

This may sound strange that a personal trainer would freely give up a potentially paying client, but if im not enjoying the process then neither will you . . . and if you are not enjoying it, you will not get the best out of it.

So what have you got to lose, drop me a DM or contact me via my website and lets get you started on your journey.

Lots of people around me couldn't see the point in me making the change and yes many said 'why bother at your age' . . . well why bother at any age for that matter?

For me it was about body dysmorphia and being unhappy in my skin, it was about longevity and trying to be that bit fitter and healthier. I had smashed my body with all sorts from the age of 14 when drink and drugs were the thing. I don't think I stopped really till I was in my mid forties.

Im never going to be an Olympic athlete or win the Arnolds but im happier, i am healthier and I feel good . . . . So thats why i bothered.

A post for my coach and friend .fitness without whom my transformation would never have happened. She inspired me over a year ago when I saw what pure dedication and discipline could achieve and changed my direction on training, taking me from broken strongman into a world I had only previously admired from a distance. I will never be able to thank her enough for everything she has done for me over the past 9 months and I’m happy to say our journey together is not over. One week on from the shoot and I’m still gasping at the imagery and what you helped me achieve!!! Thanks Em for everything!!!!
