CHW 2023 Symposium Liberia Day Three at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
On today, Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the conference was officially declared opened by the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and acting Chair of the Cabinet, Honorable G. Wesseh Blamoh on behalf of the President of Liberia, H. E. George Manneh Weah.
At the occasion, several national and international leaders made separate remarks.
First among the speakers was President George Weah who termed the ongoing 3rd International Community Health Worker Symposium as crucial to the government's development agenda.
During the remark section, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf delivered the keynote address and described the ongoing event as key and timely intervention for community health workers across the world.
Also speaking, the Vice President of Liberia, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor stressed that national government must commit to putting their resources into services that are prepared to protect the vulnerable, improve health care and educational outcomes and open up possibilities for national chances of achieving Universal Health Coverage.
At the same time, Liberia's Heath Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah noted that the leadership of Liberia as an exemplar country, remains committed and determined to make this third edition of the International Community Health Workers Symposium a success.
Meanwhile, the partners to this event include: UNICEF , USAID - US Agency for International Development , The Global Fund , Last Mile Health , Global Financing Facility, Partners In Health , World Bank Group, International Rescue Committee , Plan International , World Health Organization (WHO) , German Corporation, GIZ, Bold Thinkers Driving Real-World Impact, Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator, African Union, John Snow, Inc., UNFPA , jhpiego, UNAIDS, Results for Development, Health Systems Global, Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Community Health Roadmap.
Remarking further, the Director of Global Financing Facility, Juan Pablo Uribe said the road of community health workers is critical to achieving Universal Health Coverage because they're the front-runners during every health crisis.
Also speaking, the Head of the Division of Disease Control and Prevention at Africa CDC, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz stressed that the delivery of community health care is still a journey in progress.
