A squint (or strabismus) is a condition where the eyes do not align properly — one eye may turn inwards, outwards, upwards, or downwards while the other looks straight ahead.
⸻
🎯 Goals of Treatment
• Straighten the eyes
• Improve binocular (two-eye) vision
• Prevent or treat amblyopia (lazy eye)
• Restore depth perception
⸻
👶 In Children
1. Correcting Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
• Patching therapy: Cover the stronger eye to force the weaker eye to work.
• Atropine eye drops: Blurs vision in the stronger eye.
• Vision therapy exercises: To improve eye coordination and strength.
2. Glasses
• If the child has refractive error (hypermetropia), glasses may correct the squint completely.
• Used especially in accommodative esotropia (eyes turn inward due to focusing effort).
3. Prism Lenses
• Help align the eyes by bending light.
4. Eye Exercises
• May help in some intermittent or small-angle squints.
• Common exercises include pencil push-ups or vergence training.
