Earwax is an essential part of our ears. It helps lubricate the ear and get rid of any bacteria.

Typically, there’s absolutely no need to use cotton buds, or anything else to clean them as you’re just trying to get rid of something that you need!

Cotton buds give the user the illusion that they are ‘clearing’ the wax, but in actual fact, they are just pushing the wax deeper inside your ear canal. Their makers have printed the caution on every packet for more than 40 years - but their biggest use is still the exact one we're warned against - putting them inside your ear canal!

The only time you need to clean your inner ears is when the wax gets too hard and doesn't remove itself.

Another brilliant result this morning, I could not see anything at all in this gents ears due to a complete build up of wax! He had been struggling with his hearing for a few months and said that his ears were awfully itchy, which is no surprise with all that wax inside 😬 unfortunately, the olive oil drops alone weren’t going to budge this.

Just under an hour later & we have 2 perfectly healthy eardrums visible, lots of removed wax, and hopefully much better hearing going forward! 😁👂

A little about myself.. I am a Registered Nurse currently working in a local GP Practice, prior to this post I worked as an NHS community nurse in Leeds for 3 years. I absolutely love what I do and all of the people that I get the chance to meet in my career.

In recent times, especially due to the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am aware that many NHS/ mobile ear care services have been suspended or have severe backlogs of patients waiting for much needed care. And, there has been many a time where I have come across patients struggling with excessive earwax that cannot access the service.

I am fully trained and competent in the assessment and procedure of ear irrigation. I hold my own Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) and use the latest Propulse Ear Irrigation equipment.

As a registered professional I will always adhere to infection prevention and control policies, and I will wear PPE to each appointment as per covid guidelines. 🧤 😷

I am now able to offer Ear Irrigation in and around Leeds as a mobile service, so you can sit back and relax whilst I remove that unwanted earwax and get your hearing back to its best! 👂
