Information for the 5 week Compassion course starting next Wednesday, the 10th, evening, 6pm - 7.15pm……..

The course is suitable for everyone; whatever your level of experience you can benefit a lot from these meditations. The course doesn’t spend much time on things like posture and main obstacles to meditation so if you feel you’d like to have a chat about any of that, please get in touch and we can have a separate chat. We can also do this after the first session if you find you think it might help.

Each week there will be a new meditation - loving kindness, compassion, happiness for others, peace and equanimity, and a Grease style medley of them all in the last week. All the meditations are 25 minutes long and each week you’ll get a recording of that week’s meditation and ideally find time to practise yourself either with the recording or in silence each day.

Each week there will also be a hopefully interesting, fun, pragmatic and thought-provoking discussion around these topics and how we can look to navigate this, at times, fairly unpleasant world without sacrificing our principles or our health and happiness. The course is definitely not focussed on turning you into a zombie doormat who doesn’t mind if someone’s stealing their car, they just feel sorry for the thief’s predicament. This is an option - look at the bishop at the start of Les Mis (and you can’t get more topical than a Hugh Jackman reference!) - but it is certainly not the only option!

There’s no cost as this teaching is part of my training for the Zenways Compassion Plus Teacher qualification.

A good way to start 2024… 🧘‍♂️

There is no wisdom without compassion, no compassion without wisdom - to paraphrase a few different quotes :)!

But what is compassion? How does it compare to loving kindness? To sympathetic joy, happiness for others? And to peace and equanimity? And how do the meditation practices on each of these four qualities transform your life and your spiritual development?

I’ve just finished learning how to teach Zen Compassion Plus with Daizan and am now running it as an online 5 week course. I need to do this as part of my qualification so I won’t charge. The course will run for 5 Wednesday evenings, 6pm - 7.15pm, from the 10th of January to the 7th of February.

These practices, known as the 4 boundless meditations, or 4 divine abodes (shimuryo zammai in zen, brahma vihara for you yogis), are incredibly powerful and absolutely life-changing. Please join me in developing and using these to live a fuller, freer life :)!
