Happy place for this boy. Anywhere there is a ball and space to run, he will be smiling from ear to ear 😄

This goes to show my nutrition is far from perfect. The picture doesn’t include the Cookie Butter that I will happily dive into with a tablespoon, sourdough bread on the counter, homemade pancakes, etc. I go through ups and downs like many of you when it comes to food, but the serving sizes is what gets out of control quickly for me.

The jar of white chocolate chips (chocolate chips not shown), just a small handful is what I grab at first. What actually happens is the one small handful becomes 2 or 3.

Chips are my downfall. Before I know it, 1/2 the bag is gone. And let’s be honest, Tostitos Scoops, Lentil Chips, Veggie Straws - all chips, all processed.

Recees Puff cereal (my fave), 1 cup becomes 2. Can you see the cycle????

I’m not saying you can’t eat these foods or have a cup of coffee. The problem is what these foods do to you over time. Chronic inflammation, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, headaches, brain fog, sugar highs and crashes, poor sleep, no energy, dark circles under your eyes, breakouts - the list can go on and on. I think I have touched on all of the above in January.

I have been on this roller coaster for the past month, always telling myself tomorrow will be different. I will start being mindful of my food choices on Monday. Guess what?? It doesn’t happen.

What happens - is that I get sick and tired of literally feeling like S**T!! My sleep suffers, lack or no energy, workouts suffer and joints hurt.

My point in all of this - if you are honest with yourself about your nutrition, it’s a starting point. If you have a game plan for the next day, more than likely to follow through. Do you have to be perfect? Absolutely not! But I want you to know is that I get it. For me, it’s not trying to eliminate everything. I just start small. It gives me some success, some hope.

He thought he could distract me from the deadlifts, over the dumbell burpees and wall walks. Obviously watching me struggle through it was exhausting. Or maybe it was the sugar crash after eating the cupcake out of the trash can

This guy entered the world 13 years ago. Yes, he was a preemie, born almost 3 months early.

All parents of preemies understand the magnitude of stress not only on the infant goes through but all parties involved.

I believe I was away from my husband and daughter for close to 3 months. I know I wasn’t in a good place mentally so I can only imagine what they were going through 💕

I am so thankful for Dr. Pankratz for not wasting any time and sending me off to UNMC. After I explained the history of my first pregnancy, he told if there were any complications I would be sent to Omaha.

My son made it into this world weighing a little over 3 pounds. I was on bed rest for 4 weeks at UNMC, sent home and was back within a week after my water broke.

I am not going to bore you with all the details of the pregnancy. We were seriously one of the lucky ones. I saw babies that were born at 20 weeks, 23 weeks, etc. I saw nurses taking parents out to tell them their baby didn’t make it. All so heartbreaking.

Things that I learned:
❣️ Trust your gut. Bleeding at 20 some weeks is not normal even when the on-call doc tells you to call back if it gets worse

❣️2 trips in the ambulance not exciting

❣️Medications to stop preterm labor - the ABSOLUTE worst EVER!

❣️ Hospital room outside the landing pad for life flight patients does not give you warm fuzzy feelings.

❣️ Ask for help. I’m so stinking stubborn and hate being waited on (as it feels to me).

❣️ Depression is real. Build a community of women who are also on bed rest.

❣️ Preemie IV’s - from the foot to the skull. Ugh 🥺

❣️ And yes there were transfusions

❣️ Never forget the spouse and siblings that are at home trying to find some sort of normalcy in their lives.

❣️ Thankful for the Ronald McDonald house. That’s where I lived from May until the 4th of July holiday that year

❣️ NICU nurses are without a question of a doubt the life force of the NICU.

❣️ Perinatal docs are so amazing! I can’t imagine what they face on a day to day basis.

❣️ Nothing fits a preemie 🥰

❣️ Be grateful

John and I are truly blessed. Happiest of birthdays to our son (posting a few days late).

Thanks for the sweet treats
