In 2018, my family doctor diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes and neuropathy. I lived with foot pain for as long as I can remember. For years I just thought I had tender feet. He prescribed several medications, but everything failed. The pain continued to worsen.

I’d have stabbing foot pains that kept me up for 3-4 nights in a row. The lack of sleep made me feel crazy. Putting on shoes was very painful, and because of the numbness, I had to stop playing pickleball and tennis. I feared where my life was headed if I could not get my pain under control.

In 2021, I was referred to pain management physician Dr. Edward Washabaugh. He had me try HFX for one week with a temporary external device to see if HFX could relieve my pain. It was a huge relief. The stabbing pains were gone! It gave me hope.

Since I got my HFX implant in 2023, it’s changed my life. With HFX, I can golf, travel with my wife and play with my grandkids. The entire experience couldn’t have been better!

I’ve had chronic burning, throbbing, debilitating foot pain from heel to toe for 17 years from diabetic neuropathy. I relied on a cane and walker for years. Removing my shoes and socks before bed was the worst.

I couldn’t work in the yard, grocery shop or walk to the mailbox. I had several severe falls which caused head trauma, causing me to fear going anywhere or doing anything.

In 2024, my podiatrist said there was nothing else he could do, but there was one more thing I could try. He gave me an HFX brochure. I was referred to pain management physician Dr. Justin Porter and I tried HFX for 1-week with a temporary external device to see if it could relieve my pain and it was wonderful!

I got my HFX implant last December. I give it a 9/10. I have much of my balance back. My mobility is 95% better. I’m standing straighter and I can walk to get the mail, take out the trash cans and walk through the grocery store.

I was expecting maybe 50% pain relief, which would have been fine. I feel very fortunate to have 95% less pain!

About 6 years ago, I began having horrible burning, tingling and numbness in my feet and legs from diabetic neuropathy. I had balance issues and was afraid of falling, so I couldn’t do much of anything. Over-the-counter meds didn’t help.

I saw a neurologist who prescribed medication, but it caused so many side effects. I was irritable, tired all the time and it upset my stomach. My pain kept getting progressively worse.

It took me forever to let my dog out because the pain was so bad. I’d hold onto the counter so I wouldn’t fall. The pain was bad at night, and I never slept very well.

I learned about HFX from my pain management physician Dr. Michael Lankhorst in 2024. I first tried HFX for 1-week with a temporary external device to see if it could relieve my pain. I could not believe the difference!

Since I got my HFX implant last August, I have 75% pain relief. I get a little bit of tingling in the toes, but nothing like it was before. I can mow the yard now. Before, I’d have to stop and do it in sections because my legs and feet hurt so much.

I’m not as depressed. I love to be outside now that it’s nice out. I’m more confident with walking and climbing stairs. I no longer have to take breaks when washing dishes and vacuuming.

About 15 years ago, I began experiencing diabetic neuropathy pain in both feet. I had burning sensations, throbbing, and persistent numbness. I tried opioids, but they offered limited relief and caused side effects.

I feared a life ruled by medication or having to rely on a pump. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life managing my pain that way. The pain became so intense I’d spend 2-3 days a week in bed.

Even the smallest movements felt unbearable, and the fatigue from being in pain made everyday tasks feel impossible. It was exhausting just to exist.

For 10 years, I had diabetic neuropathy pain and sciatica pain in my hips and knees. I had a very active lifestyle before my pain. I needed prescription painkillers to play golf. I also tried steroids and injections, but disliked the side effects.

On top of the sharp, unrelenting discomfort, I felt like my hips were going to “unscrew” and fall to the floor. I became very limited with activities and hobbies due to the pain and feeling unbalanced. I couldn’t ski or play basketball or pickleball.

I’ve had diabetes for 20 years and my neuropathy made my legs and feet hurt all the time. They would tingle and burn constantly. I also had burning, throbbing, debilitating pain in my low back. It felt like being stabbed with a sharp knife. No one ever did anything but give me medication and shove me out the door. And I still couldn’t do anything.

I couldn’t work on cars in the garage, which was my happy place. My grandkids would bring their cars over and I’d have to tell them what to do and how to do it. I was miserable. Lying flat in bed was the only thing that helped.

For 2 years, I lived with debilitating pain in my feet and ankles from my diabetic neuropathy. I tried a tens unit, creams and medications, elevating and soaking my feet, but I still had crippling pain. It felt like fire ants were eating me alive.

I was going crazy. I couldn’t sleep, and I always felt hot. My feet burned and throbbed. I felt unstable and I fell all the time.

Then one day, I was on Instagram and the first thing I saw was an HFX ad. I knew it was a sign. I clicked on the ad and filled out the short quiz to see if I qualified for HFX. I had diabetic neuropathy in both legs and feet that felt like constant burning and numbness. The pain was so bad that it made life very difficult.

I could barely walk to my mailbox. I had to use a mobile cart to get around the store and have a friend help me put away my groceries at home. I had to sit while taking a shower. I couldn’t drive myself anywhere or go dancing. It made dating very difficult after my wife passed away.

I learned about HFX from my pain management physician, Dr. Hyun Hong, who recommended I try HFX for 1 week to see if it could relieve my pain. My trial week with a temporary external device was fantastic. I got nearly 80% relief. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me!
