Although it is a bit older, this video does a spectacular job explaining LBD in very straightforward terms. One of the purposes in this lecture is to avoid the concept that LBD can only be diagnosed after death & focus on treatment during life. It’s well worth the time to watch.

Let’s talk terms…”Dementia” is a general term for many different diagnoses. Many are aware of “Alzheimer’s” because they have seen or heard of it in the news or movies & TV. Lewy Body is a different kind of dementia, & has a different cause (we will cover this more later). It’s important to know that many dementia patients have more than one form. Up to 40% of Lewy Body patients also have Alzheimer’s.

Throughout our Lewy Body experience, the struggle to find education, treatment & resources has been constant. Overwhelmingly grateful for every answer & solution that we have unearthed. Yet at the same time, sad for the many others who are only beginning the journey & already exhausted by caring for a loved one and at the same time becoming a part time amateur medical researcher. My heart goes out to the many medical personnel who have helped & learned with us along the way.
Understanding only happens when there’s enough information “Out Loud” and accessible to those who need it. The greatest barrier to LBD diagnosis & treatment is the lack of understanding. That is precisely why Lewy Out Loud - Alabama has been created.
Here’s the bold truth…I’ve had the concept for this pulling at my heart for a year. Today, it hit me, when is anyone completely “ready”? With LBD, we’ve learned to plan for the worst & hope for the best, so I’m implementing the same strategy here. Have patience & we will build this to be a place for helpful resources, not just words on a screen. The goal is to grow organically so that we can evolve to help all associated with Lewy Body Dementia at each part of their journey.
So…the best answer to “Ready?” is simply, with your help, I’m ready as I will ever be!
