Ok, that sounds a bit harsh.

The sad thing is that we often put our needs last until we are really in the deep depths of burnout.

Where we are beyond exhausted, overwhelmed, anger hits more often than we'd care to admit, health issues are creeping in and the joy is gone.

By then we have a lot of damage to repair not only to our health, but relationships with our spouse, kids, friends and in our career.

There is no judgement from me as I was at this point when I finally figured out what was needed to get out.

But you don't have to wait as long as I did to get your energy and life back so you can be the mom and career woman you want to be.

Coffee is delicious and you deserve to be able to relax and enjoy it. The problem is when it totally controls your day and you feel like you can’t carry on without it—that’s the sign that it’s time to find better ways to up your game.

To be a parent and strive for an impactful career means we have goals.

One big mistake we make is focusing solely on the goal. Never looking back to see the progress we've made.

Quite often that progress has moved us into a new direction.

But because we are so focused on the end goal we do see the changes we've experienced. And when we get to our goal we don't feel fullfilled.

When it comes to burnout we may think of what life will be like once we are out. When we have energy, are calm and have the joy in life.

But what would your life be like next week if you were able to breathe. Where the world didn't feel like crashing in on you for 5 minutes each day?

How would that feel?

Burnout is a BEAST! If we don't stop to enjoy each step then it will be a long journey. One that we may not achieve.

The pressure we put on ourselves when we are working hard to make gains in our career and be a parent can get pretty high.

And when we are working to get ourselves out or burnout we may bring in the same all or nothing strategies.

Through more than 30 years coaching clients I can tell you that those who come in fast and furious are the ones that often don't achieve their goals and go back to their old ways fast.

Why?

Because trying to do all the things at once not only takes a lot of time out of your already busy day. But it also takes a lot of brain power to learn multiple habits.

The most successful clients I've worked with add in one small habit at a time.

Something that will not disrupt their day and routines and will be easy to fit in.

Once that habit becomes a part of their life they add in another.

Each step compounds over time.

Through more than 30 years of coaching clients, I can tell you that those who come in fast and furious are the ones that often don't achieve their goals and go back to their old ways fast.

The other day I was speaking to a friend who loves designing things.

She looked at me and said that her dream cottage reno is not bringing her joy.

When she is asked to pick features for the fire place or kitchen she feels overwhelmend and wants to run the other way.

In the past she would have been so excited.

Now she feels nothing... well except for resentment with how this reno is adding more stress and tasks to her already busy plate.

She is not alone.

It can get to the point where you don't feel joy in spending time with your kids anymore. Your brain knows you used to crave time with them and now you would rather just be on your own.

What things did you used to feel excited about that you just don't anymore?

No judgement here - losing joy is often a sign of burnout. And it can be reversed!
