Do you remember your first love?

The girl or boy that you used to crush on in your school?

As with any first time emotions, they made their lasting impressions and we carry them with us for the rest of our lives as memories worth cherishing.

But as you grow up, you keep getting into more and more relationships, meaningful as well as meaningless, and you reach a point where you get desensitized to these feelings. Sometimes it even takes an ugly form where finding a relationship becomes a chore. You just wanna get done with it for the sake of family or society or just for the sole reason of settling down. But when you look in retrospect, those warm feelings are what made life more fulfilling. How many of you have not wished at least once to wanting to go back to your childhood and just live your life worry-free and in innocence? Hardly anyone would say no to that because we all had a deep connection with our childhood for the simple fact that we experienced the warmest feelings from those around us when we were not all grown up.

The soft and chilly hand of your grandmother on your forehead to see if you have got fever, your big sister telling you the stories in the nights from her school English textbook, your father taking you to the school bus with an umbrella over your head on a rainy morning and your mother making your favorite snacks on a cold and rainy evening when you come back from school. That warm feeling of looking at the rain from the house front as you sip on your hot tea with a blanket around you is inexplicable. We all remember and cherish these memories because these are one of the purest and most unrequited forms of love and warmth we have experienced.

So what is it that has changed now a days that we no longer are actively seeking these warm feelings? Is it your job? Is it that you are not finding time? The answer is yes and no. The reason you are working so hard at your job sacrificing your time with your family and earning more and more is so you can give your family a nice and comfortable life, but at the same time if money is all you can give to your family, then you have failed too. Money without affection is just charity. The kind of love and affection and the warmth you experienced in your childhood can't be experienced the same way anymore but the closest to experiencing it again is through your spouse/partner. So please make time for them this valentines and show them you love them.
