This monsoon, as heavy rains lashed Hyderabad, the neighbourhoods around Masjid Banda in Kondapur braced for flooding. But thanks to the restoration work undertaken by Sai Life Sciences and other organizations at Kudikunta Lake, the waters had a place to flow, easing the impact on nearby communities.
Over the years, Hyderabad has watched many of its lakes slip into neglect. Reviving them is not just about conservation—it is about resilience, coexistence, and restoring balance to urban life. Kudikunta Lake is one such example, where we have begun a multi-pronged effort: Constructing rainwater inlets to channel stormwater safely into the lake, reinforcing bunds to improve capacity, planting thousands of native saplings to restore biodiversity, installing solar-powered illumination for safety, and creating spaces where the community can connect with the lakefront. We are also building a boardwalk along the lakefront—creating a vibrant space for leisure, outdoor activities, and community events, while fostering a sense of connection and ownership. Our efforts build on the commendable work done by Infosys Foundation during the early phases of the project.
Step by step, the lake is returning to life. And as the water flows back into its basin, it is also recharging groundwater, easing flood risks, and reviving the local ecosystem.
The story of Kudikunta Lake is still unfolding, but it already shows what’s possible when timely action meets a commitment to sustainability. For us, restoring Kudikunta Lake is about caring for the home we share and strengthening our commitment to water stewardship.
Stay tuned for more updates.
