For a while there, I was thinking I was doing okay because my BMI was not that bad; I am overweight, but not obese. But I was careful with what I ate and I walked regularly, and so the numbers seemed to balance out. However, in general, I was not doing enough; some people find that they need to put an extra 10-15 minutes a day into their exercise program. So, here are some suggestions. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, but I have to say that the "seven-a-day" rule works; eat a healthy variety of vegetables (starchy and veggie), and make sure you have at least one serving a day, each of which should have a little meat and protein.

"Losing weight is as easy as saying no and moving more," says Jessica Sepel, R.D., the founder of Jessica Sepel Nutrition, and the founder of nutrition and fitness business Nourish Full-Service Coaching. "Being a healthy lifestyle is not an exercise. It's a lifestyle. You just have to make the change to live a healthier and happier life." "Dieters need to be accountable to themselves and not always rely on others. Be sure to log all food eaten and drink all liquids within a 24-hour time period," she says.

1. Make choices that you know are healthy. You can exercise your body to become slimmer. But exercising your brain, too, improves your thinking and increases your brain power, which will boost your ability to make healthy choices. Reading, doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku will keep you from going down the wrong path. Try to minimize the amount of salt, fat and sugar you consume. It can take some time to eliminate them completely. But you'll notice a difference once you do. 2. Write down the food you eat. You should write down everything you eat and drink. This is so you'll be mindful about what you're putting into your mouth, and what you can do to be healthier. You'll be able to pinpoint the foods that you can't resist, and the ones you eat because they taste good.
