Most of us are told that our cholesterol number is either fine or it isn't, and that's usually where the conversation stops.

The trouble is, the word "cholesterol" is shorthand for several quite different things travelling through your blood, and they don't all behave the same way.

That distinction matters when you're trying to make sense of your own results.
