Summer is a season filled with fun outdoor activities and adventures.

but it's also a time when many diseases thrive.

As temperatures rise, so do the risks of certain illnesses.

Here are some tips on how to stay healthy and prevent summer diseases:

Stay hydrated: It's essential to drink plenty of water, especially during the summer. Dehydration can lead to heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and other serious conditions.

Protect yourself from the sun: Too much sun exposure can cause sunburns, heat rash, and skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing when outside for extended periods.

Avoid mosquito bites: Mosquitoes are a common carrier of diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue fever, and Zika virus. Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants, use insect repellent, and avoid being outdoors during peak mosquito activity hours.

Keep food safe: Foodborne illnesses increase during the summer months, as bacteria thrive in warm temperatures. Always wash your hands before handling food, keep cold foods cold, and cook meats to the appropriate temperature.

Be aware of water-related illnesses: Swimming in untreated or contaminated water can lead to infections such as swimmer's ear, gastrointestinal illness, and skin infections. Avoid swimming in stagnant water and always shower after swimming.

By following these tips, you can enjoy all that summer has to offer while staying healthy and preventing the spread of disease. Stay safe and have a happy summer!

Chagas disease is named after the Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas.

It is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which is transmitted to animals and people by insect vectors and is found only in the Americas (mainly, in rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread).

Chagas disease (T. cruzi infection) is also referred to as American trypanosomiasis.

The person can become infected if T. cruzi parasites in the bug f***s enter the body through mucous membranes or breaks in the skin. The unsuspecting, sleeping person may accidentally scratch or rub the f***s into the bite wound, eyes, or mouth.

People also can become infected through

Congenital transmission (from a pregnant woman to her baby);

Blood transfusions;

Organ transplantation;

Consumption of uncooked food that is contaminated with f***s (p**p) from infected triatomine bugs; and

Accidental laboratory exposure.

It is generally considered safe to breastfeed even if the mother has Chagas disease.

However, if the mother has cracked ni***es or blood in the breast milk, she should pump and discard the milk until the ni***es heal and the bleeding resolves.

Chagas disease is not transmitted from person-to-person like a cold or the flu or through casual contact with infected people or animals.

Two approaches to therapy, that can be life-saving include:

1. Antiparasitic treatment, to kill the parasite.

2. Symptomatic treatment, to manage the symptoms and signs of infection.

TABACCO .

The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No To***co Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the to***co epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.

In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38, calling for 7 April 1988 to be a "a world no-smoking day."

In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No To***co Day, every year on 31 May.

8 million people are killed by to***co products every year

1 million people die annually from exposure to second-hand smoke

20 types of cancer are caused by to***co, including oral cancer and cancers of the lips, throat, and food pipe (esophagus)

Second-hand smoke exposure increases the risk of developing lung cancer

1 in 5 adults smoke worldwide

50 percent of smokers die above the age of 70 years

Smokers are 22x more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smokers

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), each year air pollution is responsible for nearly seven million deaths around the globe.

Air pollution refers to the release of pollutants into the air.

Air pollution consists of chemicals or particles in the air that can harm the health of humans, animals, and plants. It also damages buildings.

Long-term health effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema.

Air pollution can also cause long-term damage to people's nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs.

Some scientists suspect air pollutants cause birth defects.

Most cases of insomnia are related to poor sleeping habits, depression, anxiety, lack of exercise, chronic illness or certain medication.

The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic).

There are two types of insomnia.

Primary insomnia: This means your sleep problems aren’t linked to any other health condition or problem.

Secondary insomnia: This means you have trouble sleeping because of a health condition (like asthma, depression, arthritis, cancer, or heartburn); pain; medication; or substance use (like alcohol).

Insomnia Risk Factors

Insomnia affects women more than men and older people more than younger ones. Young and middle-age African Americans also have a higher risk.

Other risk factors include.

Long-term illness.

Mental health issues.

Working night shifts or shifts that rotate.

The cornea is the Transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber.

It helps to shield the rest of the eye from germs, dust, and other harmful matter. The cornea shares this protective task with the eyelids, the eye socket, tears, and the sclera, or white part of the eye.

The cornea acts as the eye’s outermost lens. It functions like a window that controls and focuses the entry of light into the eye. The cornea contributes between 65-75 percent of the eye’s total focusing power.

_The healthy cornea does not have or need blood vessels within it. Instead, oxygen dissolves in tears and then diffuses throughout the cornea to keep it healthy.
