Your body does everything it can to support you. As I tell my clients all the time- 'everything is connected!'. Your body instinctively knows that maintaining your gorgeous locks is not a life or death priority. When you are under stress, it releases cortisol (your flight or fight hormone) and sends the nourishment you give it to the systems that need it most.

Chronic stress puts pressure on your adrenal glands, causing them to produce excess cortisol. This can cause chronic inflammation in the body leading to blood sugar imbalances and insulin resitance. It also causes vitamin and mineral deficiencies to occur.

Zinc & Iron are necessary for hair growth. When the body is under stress, it distrupts digestion and causes depletion of these important minerals.

Vegan Mayo is super simple to make and pacekd with protein for your gorgeous body!

Ingredients:

7oz Organic (silken or soft) Tofu

1/3 cup Light Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 tbs Lemon Juice

1 tbs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 tsp Pink Himalayan Salt, plus more for taste

1/4 tsp Dijon Mustard

Simply place all ingredients in a food processor, Bullet or Ninja Blender and blend until creamy. It is ready to use immediately, but it will get thicker after being refridgerated. Store in an airtight, glass container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Here's an easy , vegan (no) Tuna Salad recipe that will help keep your body full & satisfied as well as in an alkaline state. Enjoy this delicious recipe guilt-free! Your body will be begging for more!

Ingredients:

2 cups of Mashed Chick Peas

Juices of 3 Limes

1/4 cup chopped Sweet Vidalia or Red Onions

1/2-3/4 tsp Dried Dill

1 tsp Spring Water

3/4 tsp Pink Himalayan Salt

1/4 tsp Cayenne or freshly ground Black Pepper

Vegan Mayo to taste

How to Prepare:

Mash the chickpeas to your desired consistency. Add and fold in all the remaining ingredients Combine with vegan mayo to taste. Serve over a delicious bed of mixed greens, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Enjoy!

This 5 minute breathing technique lowers blood pressure as much as exercise or drugs & boosts cardiovascular health in menopausal women!

Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder recently performed a study of volunteers between 50-79 with healthy to slightly above normal blood pressure readings. Some of the volunteers performed just 5 minutes of the 'high resistance' Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training (IMST) for six weeks. IMST requires you to inhale really hard on a small, affordable, easily available device that provides resistance; strengthening breathing muscles (inspiratory muscles) as well as your diaphragm (imagine sucking hard into a tube that sucks back).

At the end of the study, the subjects had a 9 point drop in their systolic blood pressure- a reduction that generally exceeds that achieved by walking 30 minutes daily/ 5 days a week. This decline is also equal to the effects of some blood pressure lower medication regimes. What's more fascinating, is that 6 weeks after the study was finished- the subjects maintained most of that improvement!

Post menopausal women (unless on HRT) don't reap as much benefit from aerobic exercise when it comes to vascular endothelial function (inner lining of the blood vessels). If aerobic exercise won't help improve cardiovascular health for menopausal & post menopausal women, this can be the lifestyle intervention that will!

Most women I speak to in peri/menopause wish they had a magic wand to get rid of the excess belly weight they can't seem to lose around their middle & lower bodies.

No matter how much you restrict your diet & how hard you workout, it seems this belly weight will not go away. It is not your fault! The underlying cause of this weight gain is not addressed by the old methods that used to work in our 20's and 30's. As we approach peri/menopause, our blood sugar levels are prone to become inbalanced due to the decline in our hormones causing insulin resistance.

Combine that with the toxins we are constantly exposed to in our environment; the water we drink, the food we eat & the products we use in our day to day lives, our body has to work super hard just to keep up! Some products, foods, & environmental factors contain 'endocrine disruptors', toxins that further wreck havoc on our remaining hormones & make our bodies expend incredible amounts of energy to process & eliminate them through our digestive system, our skin & our lungs via the kidneys & liver.

There is a way to get rid of stubborn belly weight while still eating delicious foods. It doesn't requite cutting out entire food groups, calorie counting, excessive exercise or depriving yourself!

Stop spending so much on prepared hummus when it is easy and healthy to make at home!

Ingredients:

2 Cans of Chick Peas
7 tbs of Aquafaba (drained liquid from chick peas)
6 tbs of Lemon Juice
1/4 cup of Tahini
1 1/2 tsp of Pink Himalayan Salt
2 1/4 tsp of Garlic Powder
1 3/4 tsp of Cumin

You can add any spices you desire like cumin, smoked paprika, siracha, curry powder, or you can add roasted red peppers, roasted garlic, chopped basil or pine nuts.

How to Prepare:

1. Add the chickpeas to the bowl of a food processor and blend until pureed.
2. Add garlic, salt, tahini, lemon juice, & cumin. Turn on the food processor and stream in the aquafaba through the top of the food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy.
3. Add in any additional seasoning to taste. Fold in roasted red peppers, roasted garlic, chopped basil, or pine nuts if desired.
4. Enjoy!
