🌿 Happy Nurse Practitioner Week! 🌿

A huge thank-you to Mayor Melisa Logan of Blytheville for officially declaring this week Nurse Practitioner Week in the city of Blytheville! đź’™

Nurse Practitioners work every day to bring compassionate, expert care to our communities — listening, healing, educating, and advocating for every patient we meet. We’re honored to serve and proud to make a difference right here in Blytheville and beyond.

To all my fellow NPs — keep shining, keep leading, and keep loving what you do. You truly are the heart of healthcare! 💙👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏾‍⚕️

Each week we have a Member Spotlight to celebrate all of the amazing nurse practitioners of ANPA. This week we celebrate ANPA member: Valerie Woodruff

How many years have you been a nurse practitioner and what inspired you to become one?
I have been a Nurse Practitioner for 24 years. I was inspired by Willa Brown who was a Registered Nurse. I saw her grace and love for people and wanted to carry that spirit forward. I was also inspired by my Father in law Aaron Woodruff Sr. I am forever grateful for the support I received from my parents Walter and Dorothy Taylor and my beautiful mother in law Dorothy Woodruff.

What is your background and how did you develop your skill set?
I began my career as a Registered Nusre on Med-Surg. I slowly began to take on the pediatric hall, post op surgery, senior care, ICU, ER and later management. The opportunity to become a Family Nurse Practitioner was the next step and I am enjoying it.

What is your biggest success to date?
The opportunity to provide quality healthcare and education to patients with the hope of empowering them to take ownership of their health.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning how to work through the maze of healthcare and insurance to get the best outcomes for the patient.

What inspires you to hit the ground running each morning?
The desire that I will empower patients to take an active roll in their health.

What’s an interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?
I like to sew.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite thing to do?
Spend time with my spouse and two grandsons at car shows

We have a Weekly Member Spotlight to celebrate all of the amazing nurse practitioners we have as ANPA members. This week we spotlight Elly Armah in this interview.

How many years have you been a nurse practitioner, and what inspired you to become one? I have been practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner for over 10 years. My primary inspiration for becoming a nurse practitioner was the desire to work independently, have my own patients, collaborate with them on their healthcare, and make a meaningful impact in their lives.

What is your background, and how did you develop your skill set? I graduated from Jonesboro High School and earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Arkansas State University. My professional experience spans various settings, including Urgent Care, Family Practice, and Trauma Hospitalist role. Through these diverse experiences, I was able to hone my skills and developed a deep understanding of patient care. Building relationships with patients is something I truly enjoy, and it has been a significant aspect of my professional growth.

What has been your biggest challenge? The most significant challenge I faced as a Nurse Practitioner was managing 2 different jobs while attempting to open up a clinic. Learning the ropes of becoming a business owner all while providing comprehensive care to my patients. It has not been easy to say the least, but I have amazing partners and collaborating physicians, who have been my rock throughout the process.

What inspires you to hit the ground running each morning? I find inspiration through prayer, dedicating every patient I will care for into God's hands. I firmly believe that He is the ultimate healer, and I rely on His guidance to fulfill my responsibilities. Additionally, coffee!!! Coffee plays a vital role in my daily routine, and it significantly boosts my energy and focus.

As the dawn breaks on a new year, let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends.

Let us release our grudges, our anger and our pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in the most loving ways, the God-conscious way. Let us serve all who are in need, regardless of race, color or creed.

Let us keep God of our own understanding in our hearts and to chant God's name each day. Let us lead the world from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from wrong to right.

Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none.

May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God's blessings shower upon you and bestow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year.
