Let’s help Rodwell FACE the world again Little Rodwell Nkomazana (9) was viciously attacked and mauled by a hyena while at an all-night church gathering in Zimbabwe. We need your help to get him here!

Due to limited resources in his home country, his best chance for medical help is in SA. Little Rodwell Nkomazana (9) was viciously attacked and mauled by a hyena while at an all-night church gathering outside of Harare, Zimbabwe. He has lost one of his eyes, his entire nose (nasal cartilage and bone), all of his upper lip, and the left part of his lower lip. You can imagine that Rodwell is severely traumatised and really fighting through the most unrelenting pain. Rodwell has since been stabilised, although, due to the limited resources in Zimbabwe, we are working with his mother, Shamiso Mabika, to transfer Rodwell to Johannesburg, South Africa, to help him get the treatment and reconstruction he needs. The family is now faced with the challenge of raising a great deal of money to pay for various medical expenses:
- reconstructive surgery
- post-operative treatment
- escorted medical evacuation from Zimbabwe
- aftercare treatment

Rodwell's treatment costs are estimated to be in excess of R1 million (this includes initial surgery and post-operative treatment and aftercare at a private clinic). Our humble appeal to the concerned people of South Africa, corporates, colleagues, family, and friends is to please raise awareness and to assist with contributing to helping this brave young man to FACE the world again! Any contribution towards this worthy cause will assist Rodwell in his successful treatment. Our question to you is, will you be the FACE behind Rodwell's smile again?

With a new prosthetic eye and nose on the way, and out of intensive care, Rodwell Nkomazana is a long way from the boy who arrived in South Africa for emergency treatment in June. However, the essence of who he is has not changed.

The story of brave little Rodwell.
One night a little boy fell asleep to the sound of beautiful singing during a church service. He thought he would slip off into an amazing dream but he woke up in a nightmare. He was not woken by everyone screaming, but by a hyena who had carried him off into the dark. His family fought hard, but still resulted in unimaginable injuries that would change his life forever. The attack has sustained extensive damage to his face.

On the 14th of July, the third phase of reconstruction was undertaken by Dr. Ridwan Mia, Dr. Jameel Desai, and Dr. Razvi Ahmed. The Reconstructive Surgery included a Flap and Scar revision, Flap Advancement, a Forehead Graft, and Implants into the nose for Prosthesis. Rodwell is doing well.
