Answering FAQs about previous post re: CVAP support.

We've gotten feedback that many folx are not sure what CVAP can help with. Possible coverage for expenses (pending approval from CVAP) listed in the post above.

Please share widely.

Q: How long does an application take? What is entailed?
A: Time depends on the person accessing support. It's a rather lengthy application that requires some information gathering but it's not a convoluted process. There is no limit to support being offered with CVAP applications and navigating related systems through Abby at this time.

Q: Are sessions confidential?
A: Yes - even though this isn't counselling, your information will not be shared without your consent.

Q: Is this virtual or in person?
A: Currently all virtual unless there's an accessibility need for otherwise.

Q: Can family members and friends attend sessions for emotional or logistical support?
A: Absolutely. Bring anyone and everyone who will feel supportive for you through this process.

Q: How do we book in?
A: Please email or text Abby at 778 775 7504 or connect@venturouscounselling.com because the online schedule through Janeapp is limited. We can arrange for a time sooner than/outside the availability online.

Q: Why are you offering this as a counselling agency?
A: Abby has been working in victim services supporting folx to fill out CVAP applications and navigating related systems for over a decade and thought this particular positioning might be useful. Government funding can be a convoluted system to navigate and we hope to be able to streamline the process for anyone affected by the tragedy. If there are other ways that might be more useful, please let us know.

Sharing a community members gofundme page. Please donate if you can and/or share widely within your networks.

"This past year, she and her husband worked together to make the necessary ends meet to leave the UK and start a new chapter of their lives with their baby Noa in Canada.

Just a month ago, Vancouver welcomed a new family from the UK.

Following the tragic events that took place at the Lapu-Lapu day festival, our Ate Eloisa was rushed to the hospital unconscious as she endured severe trauma to her head, a collapsed lung, and broken spinal cord.

Fortunately she was attended by the incredible team of doctors and nurses at VGH where she underwent a successful surgery to reattach and stabilize her spine. Although Ate Eloisa may never walk again, her spirit remains strong and with her family.

To this day she continues to fight for her recovery.

Knowing our Ate Eloisa, she would rather fight this battle alone than with the help of her community. We however believe she is the most deserving person of any help and support she can get.

We hope that this fundraiser will give her the time she needs to focus on her recovery from this traumatic life-altering experience."

✨ Masking as Collective Care ✨

At Communities of Care, we know that caring for each other means taking real steps to keep our community safe. That’s why this is a mask-mandatory event—because protection isn’t just personal, it’s communal.

We also recognize that no space can be 100% risk-free. Food and drinks will be provided, and part of the event will take place outdoors. Our goal is harm reduction—minimizing risk while still making space for connection. Volunteers will be checking in throughout the event to remind participants of the mask policy.

By masking, we’re protecting disabled folx, immunocompromised community members, elders, and everyone we share space with. Masks will be provided. Thank you for helping us create a safer, more caring community. 💛

Community care is built by all of us. ✨

is a mobile free store redistributing essential supplies to unhoused and underserved folks in the Downtown Eastside. The need is constant, and mutual aid means showing up however we can.

At Communities of Care (April 13, 11:30-5 at the Birdhouse), we’re hosting a donation drive—bring what you can:
⛺️ Tents, tarps, sleeping bags
🧦 New socks & underwear
🧴 Toiletries & rain gear
📱 Old phones (with chargers)
🎒 Backpacks, locks, & more

If it’s clean, in good condition, and useful—you’d be surprised how much it matters. Let’s stock the bus together. 🚍💛
